Trekking the Inca Trail in Peru is one of the most iconic multi-day hikes in the world. Following this ancient and moderately challenging trail is the ultimate way to reach the spectacular ancient ruins of Machu Picchu, and we've designed this holiday idea around that adventure. Spend four days following in the footsteps of the Incas, walking alongside the river through a lush valley, over mountain passes and through the tropical cloudforest. There's also plenty of time to explore cosmopolitan Lima and acclimatise to the altitude in pretty Cusco, both with their endless fascinating history and plenty of culinary delights to sample.
The Inca Trail is limited as to the number of hikers each day, making it incredibly popular in the peak season between May and September. Permits are often sold out between 12-6 months in advance, so do check with us first as to whether permits are still available for your preferred travel dates. For any trekking fan, it is a must. Your Inca Trail adventure kicks off today with an overnight flight from London to Lima. We find night flights usually suit our clients best, but we'll be sure to work together to find the best flight options for you.
When you touch down in Lima, you'll be greeted by our friendly representatives and whisked off to your hotel in the city. Along the way, your guide will give you an overview of the city, sights and best spots for food to help you make the most of your time
The third day of your trek might be the longest one, but it's also the most impressive. From Pacaymayo, you’ll climb to the Phuyupatamarca Pass (3,700m / 12,073ft), and walk on through the cloud forest until you reach your final campsite at Wiñayhuayna (8,792ft). With plenty of archaeological sites to explore along the way, today's the perfect warm-up act for the main show of Machu Picchu that awaits you tomorrow.
