We’ve designed this holiday itinerary to be packed full of experience, adventure and ‘wow’ moments. You’ll venture to some of the best bits of the country, from the colourful chaos of Marrakesh’s medinas and the authentic Berber culture in the Atlas Mountains, to the ancient crumbling kasbahs in the Oases and the stunning Agafay stone desert, before finishing your trip in the charming fishing town of Essaouira.
As Morocco is a mere three and a half hour flight from London, and all of these locations are within a few hours' driving distance of each other, we really believe that Morocco can be an ideal holiday destination for travel with teenagers. There's so much at every turn to keep all members of the family entertained, and it will also open the kids' eyes to new cultures and ways of life – one of the most magical things about travel for small kids, middle-sized kids and grown-up kids alike. This itinerary keeps things flexible – you can keep an adrenaline junkie teen happy while equally pleasing those who love the pool-side, everyone can do what they want, whenever they feel like it. You'll arrive in Marrakesh today and settle into your rustic riad in the heart of the medina for a three-night stay. This evening, you’ll head off on a food tasting tour where you’ll be spoilt for choice. From flaky pastries to the sweet and spicy flavours of tagine, you’ll be led by a local on a tasty night through the streets of Marrakesh, followed by a button-popping traditional Moroccan dinner in the Jemaa El Fnaa plaza.
This morning, you’ll be greeted by your friendly local guide, who will lead you on a classic tour of Marrakesh. You’ll uncover the city’s must-see landmarks and hear fascinating stories about the city’s culture as you go. After the tour, you’re free to explore. If you fancy a little more exploring, head to the souks for an afternoon of haggling. Or, simply return to the oasis of your riad hotel to unwind by the pool, soak up the sun and relax.
Today, a full-day adventure into the Atlas Mountains’ beautiful landscape awaits. Along the way, you’ll come across little Berber villages and countless stunning views. You'll have the chance to meet a local Berber family, where you'll most likely be welcomed with a fresh mint tea and the chance to learn about their traditions. This is an unmatched chance to gain a deeper understanding of their connection to their native land, all while enjoying an authentic and wholesome feast of Morocco’s mountain cuisine.
Today, you’ll be transferred to the beautiful and fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou in the Oasis region for a two-night stay. Here, you'll enjoy a day full of the history and culture of this UNESCO World Heritage site. If you’re keen on arts and crafts, explore the local markets filled with handmade crafts, perfect for picking up a unique keepsake. In the evening, visit the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a must-see for Game of Thrones fans, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding desert landscape as the sun sets.
Enjoy a relaxed day exploring the beauty of the Oases today. We recommend heading into Ouarzazate, where you can visit the world-renowned Atlas Film Studio, a real hotspot for film buffs with its impressive collection of sets used in films like Gladiator and The Mummy. Pay a visit to the 19th-century fortress Kasbah Taourirt before treating yourself to lunch at the Oasis de Fint. We challenge you not to fall a little in love with its stunning lake views, it's a special spot!
Today, you'll be transferred to the rocky landscapes of the Agafay Stone Desert. Pass through the Ounila Valley and Telouet along the way, home to kasbahs steeped in century-old history, before crossing the scenic Tizi n’Tichka mountain pass. Once you arrive, the afternoon is yours to explore. Enjoy a peaceful camel ride across the desert, or opt for a bit more family adventure with quad biking, dune buggy rides, or a spot of desert biking.
Today, you’ll transfer to Essaouira, a laid-back coastal town known for its gorgeous stretches of beaches and relaxed attitude. You can spend your afternoon unwinding by the pool, strolling along the beachfront promenade, visiting the harbour, historic citadel, or exploring its military-inspired medina with an easy browse around its souks and art galleries.
You will start your day with a guided tour around Essaouira. Your guide will point out all the film locations for Game of Thrones fans and all of the most historic and culturally significant sights. Afterwards, we've planned another afternoon at leisure, with plenty of options to suit your interests. Whether you're looking to catch some waves with a surf lesson, master Moroccan cuisine in a cooking class, or take a horseback ride, just chat to us and we'll help choose the best adventures to suit your family.
Today, you'll head out into the outback of the Argan Forest, famously known for its population of mountain goats and argan trees. Here, you'll have the rare opportunity to witness the curious sight of goats climbing the argan trees. Next up, you'll visit a women’s argan cooperative to learn about the traditional methods of production, the significance of argan oil to the local community, and the vital role women play in preserving this ancient craft.
Your family adventure comes to an end today as you'll be picked up from your hotel and taken back to Marrakesh in good time for your flight home.
