Your tailor-made holiday will be as unique as you are. These itineraries are just a starting point, a bit of inspiration to show what’s possible. Your own trip all starts with a conversation with one of our Morocco experts, who’ll take the time to understand what matters most to you and design the perfect holiday to match.
Our clients returning from fabulous Morocco trips comment time and time again on how lovely the locals are throughout the country. We couldn't agree more, of course, so we’ve created this itinerary to connect you with the Moroccan people as much as possible during your adventure. Whether that's through learning all about daily life in the cities, getting a first-hand insight into the traditions of the Berber people in the mountains, or getting stuck in with some craft making or cookery classes. This itinerary is one for the culture vultures who want an up-close look at life in this corner of North Africa.
You'll take in two of the country's most exciting cities, Marrakesh and Fez, where life feels busy and fast-paced (in a lovably chaotic way!), and handicrafts are the backbone of the energetic souks. You'll have the chance to try all sorts of activities, from leather slipper making to pottery, and even tour through one of the medinas in a sidecar with a local for a unique perspective. In between these stops, we'll whisk you off to the countryside for a breath of fresh air and to a more traditional, bucolic way of life. Out here, you'll learn how these mountain people live off the land, and you'll even break bread with local families, one of the most special moments of connection in this itinerary. As always, this itinerary is just a suggestion. Give us a call and we’ll tinker and tweak every detail until it’s perfect for you.
Here's a summary of what you might get up to day-to-day on this Morocco holiday. As always, this is just an idea. Every single day of your holiday will be tailored to suit you.
Today, after your short flight, you’ll dive straight into Moroccan culture as you’re greeted and escorted to your riad, nestled inside the heart of the city's historic and vibrant Medina. Once you've had time to settle in and soak up your surroundings, your guide will provide an itinerary of the secret spots, must-see hotspots, and underrated places that only locals know about - a cultural connoisseur’s step-by-step guide to unlocking Morocco’s best-kept secrets.
Today, you’ll be met by your guide (and trusted chauffeur!) for an exciting ride around Morocco’s most seen and unseen landscapes, from the city’s busiest streets and most talked-about centre to the “non-touristy” realms of the Guéliz district and the palm grove, in none other than a traditional vintage open-air sidecar. You'll experience life as a local, gaining plenty of insider knowledge about daily life in Morocco from your local guide along the way.
You’ll start the day by getting hands-on in a traditional artisan workshop, where you'll learn to craft your own leather slippers or pottery, each worthy of a serious “Best Souvenir” award. Then, in the evening, you'll explore the city’s flavours with a guided trip into the town centre to try some local delicacies and taste your way through the Medina. We're big foodies here at HA, so we couldn't recommend this more.
Today, you’ll leave the city behind and head to the High Atlas Mountains, where you’ll settle in for a couple of nights. On your way to the hotel, you'll be guided through the Ourika Valley and along the Ourika River, with a slight detour for a traditional lunch with a welcoming Berber family in their home. This is a really special chance to experience the authentic warmth of Moroccan hospitality, and it will be a highlight of your holiday for sure.
Today, you’ll truly experience living like a Moroccan local. On this ‘Go Berber’ excursion, you’ll fully immerse yourself in their unique way of life, learning all about their day-to-day routines as you go. You’ll brew tea with a family, try your hand at ceramics, learn traditional weaving techniques, and explore the farmland that sustains their off-grid lifestyle. This excursion is one of our favourites, it gets you straight to the heart of Morocco and the people who call it home – one of the most special parts of any holiday.
You’ll take today at your own pace. Take the time to relax and explore the mountains or lace up your hiking boots for a trek through the peaceful, surrounding villages. When we’re designing your Morocco holiday and will know when you’ll be here, we’ll be sure to recommend the best markets to visit during your time, giving you the best possible experience of authentic, rural Moroccan life.
It’s time to say goodbye to the mountains today and head off to the cultural capital, Fez. You’ll travel by either direct train or private transfer to experience one of Morocco’s most historic cities, renowned for its artisan craftsmanship and rich history. You’ll explore the treasures of this historic city, make your way through a leather shop and to walk up four flights of stairs to reach the astounding views of the Chouara Tannery (one of the oldest in the world), visit one of Morocco’s only standing madrasas still attached to a working mosque for an added element of intrigue, complemented by the intricate detailing and architecture of the 14th-century Bou Inania school. Or, for a deeper dive into history, you can visit the nearby city of Meknes or the ruins of Volubilis.
You’ll step back in time today as you wander the oldest part of the city and the medieval streets of Fez el-Bali. Visit the iconic tanneries and learn about the ancient methods of leatherworking that have been passed down through generations.
Today, you’ll get another chance to live like a local - the Moroccan way – on our Day in the Life of a Local Family excursion. You'll spend time with a local family, shop at traditional markets for fresh ingredients, and cook a delicious meal together. You’ll even learn an Arabic phrase or two and experience their daily routines firsthand. Here at HA, we believe that the magic of travel is found in the authentic connections you make along the way. And today is a chance to make a lot of those! If Morocco hadn’t already claimed a little piece of your heart, it will have by the time you head to bed tonight.
Today is free for you to do as much or as little as you like. But whatever you decide, prepare yourself for a lot of walking, as Fez is one of the largest urban car-free spaces in the world. There’s plenty to experience both inside and outside the Medina walls, you could even spend the afternoon nurturing your creative mind with a leather workshop, embroidery class, or drum-making lessons. Of course, we're here with plenty of tips if you'd like a more structured day.
Today, your Moroccan adventure comes to an end as you'll be transferred to a northern airport in time for your return flight. We hope you'll be flying home with a heart full of warmth after 11-days of Moroccan culture and hospitality.
