Meet Emma

Every trip we design is personal, and that starts with our brilliant team of Destination Managers. They handpick every hotel, route and excursion based on their own first-hand experiences, love of the country and passion for making your holiday the very best it can be.

Emma specialises in designing unforgettable holidays to her beloved Japan, Oman and Morocco – she's also our in-house foodie, sustainability lead, and mental health first aider (she really does wear a lot of hats!). She’s travelled solo across the globe, eaten her way around Japan, and hiked through Oman’s mountains and Morocco’s valleys. She's also brilliant at seeking out those lesser-visited highlights that visitors all too often miss. So, if you’re after epic landscapes or unforgettable meals, our Emma has you covered

Why do you love travel?

Why do you love travel?

I couldn’t wait to hit the road once I had finished university – in fact, I went off interrailing on the same day as I handed in my dissertation. Since then my life has revolved around travel, and for me it’s all about an exploration about how other people live and discovering the world’s magnificent scenery at the same time. Learning to understand the diversity of our amazing planet is something that takes a lifetime and I’m here for the job!

How long have you worked in travel?

How long have you worked in travel?

After travelling straight out of university back in 2009, I have spent every day since then figuring out a way to travel as much as possible. I spent six years after that living as a travel writer on the road, at first here there and everywhere. I then had longer stints living in Latin America and Canada, before coming back to the UK and Ireland spending a year travelling around to discover my homeland, and spending a further year in Portugal after that. Now I enjoy life living in the Cotswolds and the job at HA allows me to share my passion for travel with clients, and I still spend most weekends travelling closer to home to feed my curiosity to always be discovering!

Off duty, where can we find you?

Off duty, where can we find you?

Any opportunity I get to talk about my dog and I’ll take it – Lyra is a Beagle x Collie and has run our household since 2020! (Our team nickname isn't 'Holiday Barkitects' for nothing!) She is our lockdown fur baby and comes on holiday with us in our campervan all the time; we’ve taken her to France, Italy and Switzerland, as well as all around the UK. Otherwise in my spare time you’ll find me stomping up hills, avidly reading, and cooking up a storm in my kitchen.

There are so many to choose from. But one that's up there has got to be staying overnight in the Sahara Desert – nothing beats that feeling of total silence as you watch the sun rise or set over the dunes. We also have a beautiful and very secluded camp we work with too, so you get none of the noise or light from nearby, making it feel really special.

Many thanks to Emma, you have been fantastic! From your quick responses to our questions and your knowledge of Morocco and the areas we were visiting was invaluable to us. We have no doubt that you helped make our holiday and memories of it, as fantastic as they are.. Having you plan our holiday was like a good friend planning our holiday for us.

[content] => From our very first contact with Emma she listened carefully to what we wanted and put together a fabulous Oman holiday for us. Our expectations, and hopes, were high and our trip exceeded them. We travelled from city to town, mountain to desert, inland and on the coast, staying in a variety of hotels. The information and suggestions we were given really enhanced our time. Everything was wonderful!
That said, we had a serious problem before leaving the UK (nothing to do with Holiday Architects) and had to contact the 24 hour emergency line. H.A. could not have been more responsive, helpful and proactive, and it made an enormous difference having them on our side when things had gone wrong.
I cannot imagine a better trip to Oman than we had, and we owe a huge debt of gratitude to Emma for all the knowledge and expertise she brought to planning our holiday.

A Taste of Kobe (Full Day)

Often overlooked due to its more showy neighbours, the city of Kobe sits close enough to Osaka, Kyoto and Hiroshima that it can be visited as a day trip (or used as a stopover) from any of its compatriots.  The city has a wealth of great things of its own to offer though, but is also one of the most enjoyable cities to while away some hours without actually trying to 'see the sights'.  The world-famous beef that Kobe is synonymous with can be tried across the globe, but it tastes so much better here.  Is it excessive to go to another city just to have a meal? Of course - but do it anyway. As one of the first places to welcome Western traders and merchants, the city of Kobe has an international tinge to it.  The Kitano neighbourhood still retains a lot of the European mansions built by these early foreign residents, now mainly operating as museums.  It's a great place to wander around - a mishmash of architectural styles, interspersed with charming cafes and boutique shops.  Nearby, and behind the Shin-Kobe train station, a hiking trail and ropeway climb up Mount Rokko.  Take in spectacular city vistas, walk to a beautiful waterfall and even spend time in Japan's largest herb garden - complete with tropical fruit and flowers. A sign on the Meriken Park waterfront proudly exclaims 'Be Kobe' - and this is something we can really get behind.  Kobe is great place to be, and anyone looking to see a part of modern Japan without the crowds of tourists should spend the day here, or even a night or two - especially to witness the city lights from the slopes of Rokkosan.
