Your tailor-made holiday will be as unique as you are. These itineraries are just a starting point, a bit of inspiration to show what’s possible. Your own trip all starts with a conversation with one of our Egypt experts, who’ll take the time to understand what matters most to you and design the perfect Egypt holiday to match.
The vast majority of Egypt’s exceptional historical sights are congregated around the Nile. Beginning in Cairo and moving on to the truly astonishing collection of temples in the fertile stretch between Luxor and Aswan, this itinerary takes in all of the must-see attractions. You’ll observe such globally renowned highlights as the Pyramids of Giza, the Valley of the Kings, a cruise on the world’s largest river and so much more that perfectly showcases why Egypt’s appeal is so enduring.
Here's a summary of what you might get up to day-to-day on this Egypt holiday. As always, this is just an idea. Every single day of your trip will be tailored to suit you.
Your international flight leaves the UK in the afternoon and arrives in Egypt this evening. You’ll be greeted by our friendly team on arrival and transferred to your hotel in the city for a three night stay.
An unforgettable first day in Egypt awaits today, with a guided tour of Cairo’s assorted pyramid complexes. You start with the most impressive and world-renowned Pyramids and Sphinx of Giza. Once you've taken in the magic of this ancient wonder, you'll visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, home to some of the most valuable Egyptian artefacts. Not too far from Giza, you'll visit the less renowned but equally fascinating pyramids at Saqqara and Dashur. These pyramids are a little more off the beaten track and offer a more peaceful experience compared to the crowds that Giza draws.
Your guided tour today focuses on Islamic Cairo. You’ll start your tour within the busy and vibrant Khan El Khalili, one of the oldest markets in the Middle East, where you can browse colourful stalls filled with spices, jewellery and traditional crafts. After taking a wander around the souk, you'll visit some of the most significant mosques of Cairo including Al-Azhar, known for its striking white marble façade, and Ibn Tulun, one of the largest in the city. Next, it's onto the adjacent Sultan Hassan and Al Rifa’i Mosques, the former of which houses a huge focal vault in the courtyard. Finally, you'll visit the Citadel of Saladin, one of the most impressive defensive fortresses and take in the unrestricted views across Cairo from the top.
You'll have an early start for breakfast today, before transferring to the airport for a short flight to either Aswan or Luxor (depending on which Nile cruise you choose). You'll be met after landing and driven to the docking point, ready to meet your Nile cruise boat and the brilliant crew on board, for a three-night adventure. Cruise routes and programmes vary, but it’s likely that you’ll visit the impressive Temple of Philae this afternoon, before starting your iconic journey down the Nile.
Your cruise along the Nile will be broken up with stops at plenty of historic sites along the way. Between Aswan and Luxor you’ll visit the fascinating temples of Kom Ombo (possibly after dark on your first night) and Edfu, which will most likely be a docking point overnight. There are many different Egypt Nile cruise itineraries on offer, and of course, we'll be sure to help select the very best one for you.
Most Nile cruises will have you arriving in Luxor in time for lunch. After dining on something delicious, you'll head out for a tour of the East Bank, and its two fabulous temples of Karnak and Luxor. This evening, we'd really recommend taking in the Sound and Light Show at Karnak.
This morning, it’s likely to be an early breakfast on board to give you time to fit in all of the abundant treasures that await you on Luxor’s fabled West Bank. The Valley of the Kings will inevitably be part of the day, while other highlights might include the Temple of Hatshepsut, the Colossi of Memnon, the Medinet Habu and the Tombs of the Workers. After saying goodbye to your boat and crew, you'll sleep on dry land tonight in one of our favourite hotels in the city.
Your Classic Egypt holiday comes to an end today as you're transferred to the airport in time for your flight home.
