Your tailor-made holiday will be as unique as you are. These itineraries are just a starting point, a bit of inspiration to show what’s possible. Your own trip all starts with a conversation with one of our Egypt experts, who’ll take the time to understand what matters most to you and design the perfect Egypt holiday to match.
Egypt doesn’t have to be all about ancient ruins, it’s a brilliant destination for families, with plenty to keep both children and adults entertained. We've designed this itinerary to weave in the big-name highlights with hands-on experiences that really bring the country to life. In Cairo, you’ll sample local dishes and wander through the lively lanes of Khan El Khalili, a fun place for curious minds (and stomachs).
From here, you’ll fly south to Aswan and board your Nile cruise, a relaxed, iconic and easy way to explore the temples along the river. Many boats include activities designed with younger travellers in mind, making the journey just as enjoyable as the sightseeing. Of course, we'll be sure to find an option that's perfect for your family.
Your family adventure ends on the Red Sea, where calm waters, colourful reefs and beach fun are the order of the day. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot a dugong while snorkelling, a real holiday moment to remember.
Below is a summary of what you might get up to day-to-day on this Egypt family holiday. As always, this is just an idea. Every single day of your holiday will be tailored to suit you.
After arriving in Cairo, a warm welcome awaits before your private transfer to the hotel you’ll call home for the next four nights.
With your expert guide, you’ll venture out to the Great Pyramid of Giza for your first close-up look at Egypt’s most iconic landmark. Wander between the three main pyramids, hear the stories behind their remarkable construction, and take in the unmistakable silhouette of the Sphinx. It’s a brilliant introduction to ancient Egypt, offering a real sense of the scale, ambition and imagination of the pharaohs.
You'll have the morning at leisure today as you build up your appetite to ‘Eat like an Egyptian!’. Along with your local guide, you'll be introduced to authentic Egyptian cuisine. You'll taste a variety of dishes like koshary, falafel, mezes and more. Visiting tucked-away gems you'd never find on your own and enjoying hanging out with a local of Cairo. Afterwards, you visit Khan El-Khalili souk, Cairo’s largest bazaar, where you’ll find a treasure trove of Egyptian culture.
Just an hour and a half outside Cairo, you’ll swap the city for the sweeping Saharan Desert. Your day will include time at the remarkable UNESCO site of Wadi Al Hitan, where ancient whale fossils can be seen scattered across the sand. You’ll also stop in Tunis Village, known for its talented potters and relaxed, creative atmosphere. Depending on your interests, you can round off the day with a boat ride on Lake Qarun or try a burst of adventure with sand surfing at Magic Lake.
You’ll fly south to Aswan today, where your guide will take you beyond the usual sights to experience what life is like in a vibrant Nubian village. It’s a brilliant chance to meet the community, hear about daily life and step inside a traditional home for a home-cooked meal. You’ll also learn how the dam reshaped the region and see ancient remains that most visitors never encounter.
Today you’ll step aboard your three-night Nile cruise, settling in before heading out to explore some of Aswan’s most significant sites. After lunch, your guide will lead you through the atmospheric Temple of Philae, a beautiful complex saved from rising waters and rebuilt stone by stone on its new island home. You’ll then visit Aswan’s High Dam, learning how its construction reshaped life along the Nile. Your final stop will be the Unfinished Obelisk, an incredible window into ancient craftsmanship and the techniques used to shape these colossal monuments.
Sailing north today, your first stop will be the very special Kom Ombo Temple, beautifully set right on the riverbank and dedicated to Horus and Sobek. After lunch, you'll continue to Edfu Temple, one of the best-preserved sanctuaries in all of Egypt and a real highlight for anyone interested in ancient mythology. As the afternoon continues, your cruise will carry on towards Luxor, passing through the famous Esna Lock – always a fun moment that the whole family will love watching from the deck.
Today you’ll explore both banks of Luxor, delving into the remarkable breadth of ancient sites that sit on either side of the Nile. On the West Bank, you’ll step inside some of Egypt’s most beautifully preserved tombs, belonging to pharaohs such as Tutankhamun and queens including Nefertari and Hatshepsut. Later, you cross to the East Bank to wander through the vast Karnak Temple Complex, it's an extraordinary showcase of ancient craftsmanship and belief, and one of Egypt’s most impressive monuments.
You’ll leave the cruise this morning and head to the Red Sea for three easy days of sun, sea, downtime and plenty of family fun.
Your final couple of days are all about slowing down by the Red Sea. Spend your time exactly as you wish, whether that be stretching out on the sand, exploring the rich life beneath the waves or heading out on the water for some adrenaline-infused adventures. If you’re staying near Hurghada or Marsa Alam, you can join a snorkelling trip to Abu Dabbab Bay, where you might just be lucky enough to swim alongside gentle dugongs. The rest of your time is yours to unwind before the journey home.
