Villa Belle Epoque

Hotel overview

Situated in the peaceful southern suburb of Maadi, relatively far from the chaotic city centre, the Villa Belle Epoque is a peaceful boutique bolthole for a slow-paced Cairo stay. Opened in 2009 amidst the embassies, colleges and boulevards of this comparatively affluent area, the property has a distinct charm that sets it apart from other Cairo hotels. The two traditional villas were initially built in the 1920s, and the original colonial style has been preserved in the most recent renovations.

Surrounded by date palms, mango, lemon and guava trees, and fronted by a patio with sun loungers and a good-sized swimming pool, it is sometimes difficult to remember that you are still in one of the most hectic cities on the planet! There are just 32 rooms and suites, each designed a little differently. While the wallpaper in some of the rooms might be a little twee for some tastes, there is no doubting the style of the assorted antique furnishings and Egyptian artwork. There are also modern touches, such as bathtubs and flat screen TVs in the rooms, while public areas such as the salon and restaurant are really well designed, with a sophisticated, historic ambience. While it’s over 12km to the downtown area, there is an underground station nearby that provides regular links with the city if you wanted to venture in under your own steam. Of course, when heading off on guided excursions, you'll be picked up by your driver and guide.
