Day 1
Today you fly from the UK to the multicultural city of Montreal. Start your time here with a wander around the cobbled streets of the Old Town, and enjoy dinner at one of the city’s many excellent restaurants.
Day 2
Montreal is a great city to explore by bike, and today’s tour will take you through several interesting neighbourhoods and along the waterfront as you learn about the city’s history and hidden gems.
Day 3
Collect a hire car this morning and head north into the leafy Laurentian Mountains.
Day 4
Enjoy a free day in the scenic Laurentian Mountains. There are a number of walking trails, cycling tracks, and several lakes where you can paddle on the water or go for a swim.
Day 5
Drive to the walled city of Québec. Orient yourself this afternoon with a walk around the Lower Town, and watch the world go by while enjoying a coffee at one of the many cafés here.
Day 6
Take a brilliant guided tour through the Upper Town with a culinary theme. You will explore the many different flavours of the city by visiting a few gourmet food producers and tasting some local specialities along the way.
Day 7
Make your way out of Québec City and journey eastward into the Charlevoix region, following the course of the St. Lawrence River as far as the lovely town of La Malbaie.
Day 8
Continue your journey east along the St. Lawrence River to the red-roofed town of Tadoussac, crossing the mouth of the beautiful Saguenay Fjord along the way.
Day 9
Take a whale-watching trip this morning. You will head out into the Gulf of St. Lawrence and spend a few hours looking for these magnificent creatures—this area is excellent for spotting minke, humpback, and fin whales.
Day 10
Today you journey along the northern edge of the Saguenay Fjord to La Baie. While you can’t see the fjord from the road, there are several detours you can take to tiny settlements that dot the riverside, such as Sainte-Rose-du-Nord.
Day 11
We recommend starting your time here with a visit to the fascinating Musée du Fjord to gain insight into the unique geology and ecology of the area. Then, perhaps drive to nearby Lac Saint-Jean and visit the historic Village Val-Jalbert, a reconstructed company town that depicts life during the heyday of the region’s paper mills.
Day 12
Drive to Québec Airport and board your overnight flight back to the UK.
