Auberge Couleurs de France is a classic “Canada in a postcard” sort of stay, set in a log cabin-style inn on a maple sugar plantation in the Québec countryside. Sitting on the edge of a lake and surrounded by forest, it’s a lovely option if you want to swap city pace for something quieter and more outdoorsy, while still staying within easy reach of both Montréal (around two hours) and Ottawa (around an hour and a half).
Rooms are simple and comfortable, with around 30 in total, set up with one or two queen beds. They’re geared towards an easy, low-fuss stay, with handy touches like a coffee maker, mini fridge and hair dryer, so you’ve got what you need without it feeling overcomplicated. It works well as a short stop to break up a journey between the two cities, or as a couple of nights to reset and spend time outside.
The real appeal is what you can do on site. There’s a restaurant for relaxed evenings, plus a sauna and jacuzzi for unwinding after a day out. In warmer months you can get out on the lake with canoes, kayaks and paddle boards, and there are also electric boats available for an additional fee if you fancy something a bit more leisurely. There are hiking trails on the property too, which makes it very easy to step straight into nature for a morning walk, then come back for a coffee by the water. WiFi and parking are included, keeping everything straightforward.
