Your tailor-made holiday will be as unique as you are. These itineraries are just a starting point, a bit of inspiration to show what’s possible. Your own trip all starts with a conversation with one of our Uganda experts, who’ll take the time to understand what matters most to you and design the perfect holiday to match.
The attraction of tracking gorillas is so great that it is easy to overlook the fact that Uganda offers much more beyond seeing these amazing primates up close. Though a trip to all of Uganda's diverse areas would take weeks, those with a little more time are well advised to include some of the main national parks that make Uganda such a diverse wilderness. A visit to Murchison Falls rewards you with seeing the River Nile forcing its way through the Rift Valley scenery, both on foot and by boat. Kibale Forest is well known for chimpanzees, and Queen Elizabeth National Park is a wonder of African wildlife.
The beauty of being able to truly tailor-make your trip means that you can choose whether to include the remote wilderness of Kidepo National Park (we recommend it, so please mention if you are interested) along with the more popular national parks that this itinerary covers.
If you are limited on time or budget, then we can tailor the itinerary to focus on just a few of these national parks for your perfect experience.
Here's a summary of what you might get up to day-to-day on this Uganda holiday. As always, this is just an idea. Every single day of your trip will be tailored to suit you.
Fly overnight to Entebbe. On arrival in Entebbe, you will be transferred to your hotel, where you can enjoy a relaxing afternoon in preparation for the journey ahead.
This morning, take a boat trip across Lake Victoria for a chance to spot the elusive African Shoebill that inhabits the Mabamba swamps. This afternoon, you travel on to Ziwa for an overnight stay.
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is now the only place in Uganda where you can see wild rhinos. You spend the morning with your trekking guide, walking among these endangered species. Afterwards, you continue to Murchison Falls for a three-night stay, stopping at the top of the falls for a closer look at this impressive cascade.
Enjoy a full day of activities. Head out on a morning game drive, followed by an afternoon boat cruise along the Delta to the bottom of the falls.
Another day of safari activities, with the opportunity to trek for chimpanzees in the Budongo Forest.
Today is a long drive as you follow Lake Albert towards Kibale Forest. Enjoy fantastic views and a picnic lunch along the way.
Head out this morning for chimp tracking in Kibale Forest, then visit the Bigodi Swamps in the afternoon for fantastic birdwatching opportunities.
Today, you will drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Included activities focus on game drives, boat cruises, and additional tracking opportunities.
Spend the morning tracking lions with a lion researcher and learn about the important work they are doing. After lunch, head to the Mweya section to board a boat for a cruise down the Kazinga Channel.
You are driven onwards to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via the Ishasha sector for a game drive. Settle in and enjoy the views of the surrounding forest.
Gorilla trek day! Arguably, saving the best until last. Make sure you have had an early night beforehand, as you will want to enjoy every minute of the hour spent with the gorillas.
Today offers the opportunity for a second gorilla trek or a chance to explore the local area, either with a guided forest walk or by experiencing the lives of the Batwa community.
Leaving Bwindi, you make your way towards the Rwandan border for a two-night stay in Mgahinga National Park, pausing at the Great Lakes Museum if time allows.
A range of activities is available, including another gorilla trek, golden monkey tracking, volcano hikes, birdwatching, and community walks.
Leaving the gorillas behind, you travel to Lake Mburo for a relaxing end to your journey.
Spend the day as you wish, either taking the opportunity to relax and admire the panoramic views or heading out on a game drive to see some of the smaller wildlife, including zebra and eland, which you may not have encountered yet.
Leaving Lake Mburo, you make the journey back to Entebbe Airport, passing via the Equator.
