Your tailor-made holiday will be as unique as you are. These itineraries are just a starting point, a bit of inspiration to show what’s possible. Your own trip all starts with a conversation with one of our Uganda experts, who’ll take the time to understand what matters most to you and design the perfect holiday to match.
This is the perfect trip for those short on time but keen to get up close to the gorillas in their natural environment. The itinerary visits Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, where you'll head out on a thrilling (and possibly strenuous) gorilla trek, culminating in up to an hour spent observing a gorilla family as they feed, play and interact together.
You can choose to include one or two treks, and spend the rest of your time in the forest exploring the wider area – perhaps canoeing on nearby Lake Mutanda en route to the lodge, or heading out on forest walks to the Nombe Pocket Forest, home to many bird species that thrive in the region. Other highlights include the chance to meet members of the local Batwa tribe, offering a fascinating insight into their nomadic, hunter-gatherer heritage.
Here's a summary of what you might get up to day-to-day on this Uganda holiday. As always, this is just an idea. Every single day of your trip will be tailored to suit you.
You’ll leave the UK today on an overnight flight to Uganda. Arriving in Entebbe the following day, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel. The afternoon is yours to relax or, if you’re feeling adventurous, head out on a boat trip across Lake Victoria to the Mabamba Swamps in search of Shoebills and other birdlife.
Depart after breakfast for the airport and fly on to Kisoro, gateway to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. From here, you can choose to walk or drive to Lake Mutanda, which you can cross by canoe transfer, or simply drive straight to the lodge. Settle in and relax on arrival, soaking up the pristine rainforest views.
Over the next two days, you’ll be trekking through the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in search of mountain gorillas. On each morning, you’ll be transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing before setting off with your guides and porters. Once you’ve located a gorilla family, you’ll spend up to an hour observing them in their natural habitat. It’s a truly unforgettable experience.
If you prefer to trek just once, you can spend your second day exploring the forest on foot, visiting local communities or following birdwatching trails through this richly biodiverse region.
After an early breakfast, you’ll be transferred back to Kisoro for your flight to Entebbe. From here, you’ll catch your onward flight to the UK. As you leave Uganda behind, take a final moment to reflect on your time in the forest and the rare privilege of encountering its remarkable wildlife.
