Ella and Haputale lie in the southern part of the hill country, to the east of Horton Plains. They are busy and bustling little market towns and the area has been popular with local and international visitors for many years due to it being one of the original tea growing regions. The towns themselves aren’t anything to write home about but the surrounding area is magnificent, with an idyllic temperature to boot. Nearby you’ll find Ella Gap and Ravana Ella Falls, as well as Dowa Rock Temple, a 4m high Buddha carved into the temple.
