Hotel L’Iglesia is one of the most interesting and unusual places to stay in Morocco, and is really helping to put El Jadida on the map. It is bursting with history, with the main building being a 19th Century Spanish church and the annexe being the former American consulate from the days when El Jadida was the most important trading port in Morocco. The restoration of the church as a hotel has been superb and the 1930’s décor really adds to the atmosphere. The rooms are very pleasant and a decent size, complete with Art Deco touches like gracefully curving metalwork and beautifully sculpted wooden wardrobes. But the real thrill is sitting in the lobby with the nave of the church soaring above you, admiring the Bakelite radios and the original church bell on display.
