Your tailor-made holiday will be as unique as you are. These itineraries are just a starting point, a bit of inspiration to show what’s possible. Your own trip all starts with a conversation with one of our Namibia experts, who’ll take the time to understand what matters most to you and design the perfect holiday to match.
Namibia might be vast, but you don’t need to cover it all in one holiday to get a taste of what makes it so special. We've designed this shorter self-drive holiday to keep things simple and scenic, with a focus on the kind of landscapes the country is famous for – rolling desert dunes, rugged mountain passes, and the wild Atlantic coastline.
Over nine days, you’ll wind your way through some of the south’s most dramatic scenery, taking in the towering dunes of Sossusvlei, the striking Naukluft Mountains, and the cool coastal town of Swakopmund, all without spending hours on the road each day. With welcoming and comfortable lodges, plenty of flexibility, and just the right mix of adventure and downtime, it’s a brilliant intro to Namibia, and ideal if you’re short on time or looking to keep costs in check.
Here's a summary of what you might get up to day-to-day on this Namibia holiday. As always, this is just an idea. Every single day of your trip will be tailored to suit you.
Your adventure begins today with an overnight flight from the UK to Johannesburg, ready for a short hop across to Windhoek tomorrow.
You’ll connect with a short onward flight to Windhoek this morning, where you’ll be met and transferred into the city to collect your hire car. After a full driving briefing, it’s time to hit the road for your first scenic drive – heading southwest over the dramatic Gamsberg Pass into the imposing Naukluft Mountains, where you’ll stay for two nights.
After lots of travelling, today’s pace is up to you. This is a great area for unguided walking trails – peaceful, open, and full of hidden corners to discover. If you’d rather explore with a guide, nature drives and horse-riding excursions are also available, as always, just chat to us and we’ll figure out the best options for you.
It’s a fairly short and scenic drive today as you head south into the Namib Desert. Your base for the next two nights is close to the edge of Sossusvlei, surrounded by wide open plains and fiery orange dunes.
You’ve got the whole day to explore the area at your own pace today. Climb Dune 45 at sunrise, walk through Sesriem Canyon, and don’t miss the chance to visit the eerie white clay pan of Dead Vlei, scattered with ancient trees and surrounded by dunes.
You’ll head north today and travel to Swakopmund, a laid-back town on the Atlantic coast where the desert meets the sea. You’ll stay for two nights and have plenty of time to wander the seafront promenade or enjoy coffee and cake in one of the old German bakeries.
You’ve got a full day to make the most of the coast today. We can help book excursions like dolphin-watching catamaran cruises, kayaking with seals, or heading out into the nearby dunes on a desert safari or quad bike ride. Just chat to us about what would make your day extra special.
Your final drive takes you back inland to Windhoek today, where you’ll return your hire car and check into your relaxed guesthouse for your last night in Namibia. This evening, toast the unforgettable adventure you’ve enjoyed, and perhaps start hatching a plan for your return…
After a leisurely breakfast this morning, you’ll transfer to the airport in time for your short flight to Johannesburg and overnight connection back to the UK.
