Nature Drives - Windhoek

For those indulging themselves at the beginning or end of a Namibia itinerary with a stay at Gocheganas, the private nature reserve harbours some real treasures. Guided nature drives reveal spectacular scenery and potentially some fantastic wildlife for a location so close to the capital. There are diverse antelope species, giraffe, zebra, cheetah, and white rhino, all of which you have a decent chance of spotting. With night drives possible on private land, you may even see leopard and some truly rare nocturnal sightings such as pangolin and porcupine, while secluded sundowners are a relaxing means to enjoy the tranquillity of the reserve.

City Tour

Windhoek is an easy city to navigate under your own steam, especially for those on self-drive itineraries. If you are spending a day there, we would recommend that you take the time to come in from the suburbs to explore the centre. Highlights include the shopping and coffee shops of Independence Avenue, the Alte Feste Museum and the striking Lutheran Christ Church, which is the best example of numerous German colonial buildings that make the centre an attractive walking area. For those with a particular interest in learning more about this distinct history and the influences that have made Windhoek the city it is today, we can arrange a half day guided city tour.

There are a growing number of spas in Windhoek where you can enjoy a massage treatment, with a selection of accommodations also offering an in-house service. By far the best at the moment is the Wellness Village at Gocheganas, unquestionably the most serene and luxurious place to stay close to the capital. There are eleven treatment rooms, a cave sauna, indoor heated pool, hydrotherapy pool and a range of treatments to choose from, meaning facilities match those you might find at a spa escape in the UK, with far better views! A little pampering here amid time to explore the reserve is the perfect beginning or end to a Namibian safari.
