Your tailor-made holiday will be as unique as you are. These itineraries are just a starting point, a bit of inspiration to show what’s possible. Your own trip all starts with a conversation with one of our Malaysia experts, who’ll take the time to understand what matters most to you and design the perfect holiday to match.
This laid-back two-week family holiday to Malaysia is the perfect mix of jungle adventure, cultural experiences and beach downtime – ideal if you’re travelling between April and October (though it’s easy to adapt for other months too!). You’ll start with a few fun-filled days in Kuala Lumpur, before heading deep into the ancient rainforest of Taman Negara, where canopy walks, wildlife spotting and night trails bring the jungle to life.
Next, continue to Terengganu’s east coast, a peaceful stretch of shoreline known for its turtle sightings and relaxed local charm. Here, you’ll cycle through fishing villages, explore the countryside, and enjoy some proper slow travel. The trip finishes with five nights of tropical beach time on Redang or the Perhentian Islands. Children will love the perfect white sand beaches, as well as the epic snorkelling, whilst parents can enjoy some much-needed pampering and relaxation before heading back to the UK.
We’ve designed this Malaysia holiday idea to be a brilliant choice for families looking for something a little different from the usual summer holiday. But, saying that, it’s equally suited to couples or honeymooners after a romantic and relaxed Malaysian escape. This is a trip with just the right mix of exploration and easy-going fun.
Here's a summary of what you might get up to day-to-day on this Malaysia holiday. As always, this is just an idea. Every single day of your holiday will be tailored to suit you.
Your family holiday kicks off as you leave the UK on your overnight flight to Kuala Lumpur today. We can also arrange flights from other worldwide destinations – or tailor the trip without international flights if you’d prefer to sort your own. As always, your holiday is yours alone, so just chat to us about the best options for you.
After touching down in Malaysia’s capital, you'll meet your private driver for a smooth transfer to your hotel where you'll check in for the next few nights. Take the rest of the day at your own pace – unwind by the pool, dip into the local shops, or grab your first taste of Malaysian street food.
After breakfast, you’ll head off on a private tour of Kuala Lumpur. Explore the city’s cultural highlights with visits to a mosque, temples, and sense-tingling street markets. There'll be plenty to keep the kids entertained. Snack on local treats, get stuck into family-friendly sights, and wrap up the morning with a wander through Chinatown, always a big hit with families. The afternoon is yours to relax, or enjoy some more family fun by the pool.
You’ll head north of the city today to visit Batu Caves – a dramatic limestone hill that’s home to a series of Hindu temples and shrines. Climb the rainbow steps, look out for monkeys and take in the views. Afterwards, head back to your hotel for some downtime.
Today, you'll leave the city behind and head deep into the jungle. You’ll travel overland before hopping in a longboat for an adventurous journey deep into Taman Negara – Malaysia’s oldest national park and one of the oldest rainforests on Earth. Settle in, enjoy your surroundings, and later head out on a guided night walk to see what stirs in the forest after dark.
Today is all about exploring the rainforest. Cruise the Tahan River, walk high above the jungle canopy, and swim in hidden waterfalls. Keep a lookout for wildlife – there’s plenty of it around here! The kids will be in their element.
This morning, you’ll visit a local Orang Asli village, home to Malaysia’s indigenous people, where you’ll learn about their traditions, crafts and lifestyle. It’s a real eye-opener of a day, especially for younger travellers, and it'll add real authentic value to your holiday. Return to your lodge for a final evening in the jungle tonight.
Say goodbye to the rainforest and take a short 10 minute boat ride back to the jetty this morning, followed by a private transfer across to Kuala Terengganu. Once you’ve checked in, enjoy some downtime. You might want to take a beach walk, hop on a bike, or – if your timing’s right – keep your eyes peeled for nesting turtles. We'll let you know if this is something your family could expect to see during your visit.
You'll venture inland from Terengganu today to explore the slower pace of rural life. Visit traditional villages, learn about local crafts and tuck into lunch at a simple family-run café in the countryside. It’s a great way to see a side of Malaysia that most miss and get a real insight into day-to-day life.
A short road transfer and speedboat ride will take you across the turquoise sea to Redang Island – or the Perhentians if you prefer. We'll be sure to help you choose which would be most suited to you and your family. The next few days are all yours to soak up island life. Think white sands, hammocks, snorkelling straight off the beach, and epic sunsets. If you're up for a bit more adventure, we recommend a jet-ski island tour or a kayak through the mangroves.
You’ll take a speedboat back to the mainland this morning for your private transfer to the airport. Time to say goodbye – for now – to Malaysia, but you’ll be flying home with plenty of family memories to reminisce over for plenty of time to come.
