Batu Caves & Royal Selangor

North of the city lie the impressive Batu Cave temples set in towering limestone hills. Climb the 272 steps into the main cave, Cathedral Cave, where stories of the Ramayana legend are depicted. Head back towards the city with an option to stop at Royal Selangor Pewter factory to learn about time-honoured techniques of created pewter objects. It’s then your time to get crafty with a 30 minute workshop. Create a take home engraved pewter dish using traditional tools, similar to those used by pewter smiths more than 100 years ago.

Kuala Lumpur Walking Tour

For an in-depth look at life in the capital, move around the neighbourhoods on foot and by public transport. Take a closer look at the blends of cultures and history, rubbing shoulders with the locals as you explore. Travel by monorail to the Chow Kit Wet Market, the city’s largest covered market. Explore the maze of stalls with your private guide. From here head to Kampung Bahru, a traditional city neighbourhood founded in 1899. Peruse the streets of the residential area before stopping at a local café. Join your guide for a local coffee to chat about life in the city, picking up some language tips and unique local insight. A haven in the middle of the hustle and bustle, the beautiful park is home to more than 800 species of orchid. Take a stroll through the gardens to learn about the unusual species. Birders can visit the aviary nearby, housing over 3000 species of birds.

Chinatown & Little India Discovery

Discover the city’s intoxicating history and vibrant modern cultures on this half day guided KL walking tour. Travel by local transport to the city’s centre, the perfect place to begin exploring the capital. Walk along streets lined with architectural wonders. Listen as the guide explains the buildings’ origins and learn about the various ethnic groups that have influenced Kuala Lumpur’s history. Cross vibrant streets where garland makers pedal brightly-coloured marigold offerings and pass one of Kuala Lumpur’s most important Indian Mosques. Continue to the architectural colonial heart of old Kuala Lumpur to learn about the past and present uses of these iconic buildings ranging from the late 1800’s to the mid 1930’s. Then cross into Chinatown to explore the vibrant market, ancestral shrines and hidden old shop houses of Kuala Lumpur’s Chinese-Malay residents. This area is also the birthplace of many of Malaysia’s signature culinary dishes, thus making it the perfect place to refuel after the walk. Pull up a chair at a popular restaurant and savour a plate of hokkien mee noodles alongside the locals.

Kuala Lumpur: The Local Way

Explore the city of Kuala Lumpur on foot and by public transport to discover the hidden gems with a local touch. The first stop is the National Museum (Muzium Negara) which has been instrumental in the restoration and preservation of the nation’s heritage. Continue by MRT to the Central Market (Pasar Senai). This was once the most famous wet market in the city and is now a bazaar of arts and crafts. Visit a traditional medicine shop and meet the local artists along the way. Building up an appetite it’s then time to feast on a traditional lunch at a local Indian or Peranakan restaurant. Continue on to the Taoist temple, Sze Ya, and the nearby Sri Maha Mariamman Hindu Temple before taking the monorail to Chow Kit. This classic wet market sells everything you can imagine and is a great place for photos. Your guide can teach you about the exotic items on offer before heading back to your hotel or the city centre using local transport.
