Your tailor-made holiday will be as unique as you are. These itineraries are just a starting point, a bit of inspiration to show what’s possible. Your own trip all starts with a conversation with one of our Egypt experts, who’ll take the time to understand what matters most to you and design the perfect Egypt holiday to match.
Over the last two millennia, Egypt has acquired a fascinating cultural backstory that has incorporated Islamic, Christian and secular influences. Keeping things firmly in the more recent past, there are monasteries, mosques, Roman ruins and Greek antiquities to discover in Cairo and Alexandria. Fast forwarding to the last century, the World War II graves at El Alamein are a sobering reminder of Egypt’s key role in the conflict, while a cruise on the incredible feat of modern engineering that is Lake Nasser culminates at Abu Simbel, an ancient temple that was relocated brick-by-brick within the last 50 years.
Here's a summary of what you might get up to day-to-day on this Egypt holiday. As always, this is just an idea. Every single day of your trip will be tailored to suit you.
After flying into Cairo, you’ll be met by the team and spend one night relaxing at an airport hotel.
After breakfast it’s a transfer to the airport for a flight to Aswan. You’ll be greeted and transferred to the Aswan High Dam to board a three night cruise on the incredible feat of modern engineering that is Lake Nasser. While the Lake is a 20th century phenomenon, the sights you’ll see on the cruise plunge you deep into Ancient Egypt, with this afternoon’s activities taking in Kalabsha Temple, Beit Al Wali and the kiosk of Kertassi.
A relaxing day’s cruising will be broken up by fascinating stops at the Temple of Dakka and Wadi El Seboua. Cocktails will also be served as you cruise past the Tropic of Cancer!
Morning excursions include visits to the temples of Amada and Derr, before passing the citadel of Kasr Ibrim. After lunch, you’ll arrive at Abu Simbel for arguably the major highlight of your trip. The afternoon will be spent on a guided tour of the fabled temples, before an optional Sound and Light show and a candlelit dinner on board with the backdrop of the illuminated temples.
After breakfast you’ll leave the boat and enjoy a brief flight to Aswan. There will then be a short flight to Cairo where you are met and taken to your hotel.
Today your guide will take you to some of the sights in the centre of the city. Your guide will take you first to the bustling Khan al Khalili market, a maze of narrow alleys filled with craftsmen whose families have worked here for centuries. Then onto the nearby Mosque of Ibn Tulun, one of the city’s oldest and most atmospheric mosques. You finish with a stop at the excellent Museum of Islamic Art, before returning to your hotel.
An unforgettable day, with a guided tour of Cairo’s assorted pyramid complexes. In addition to the legendary site at Giza, there are less renowned but equally fascinating pyramids at Saqqara and Dashur, both less than 30 minutes’ drive from the city. You'll have time to visit the new Grand Egyptian Museum, also on the West bank of the Nile.
In the morning you’ll be collected for a drive north to Alexandria, with its distinct Mediterranean vibe. This afternoon you’ll receive a guided tour of the city, uncovering numerous layers of fascinating history.
Today you will be driven west for roughly two hours, to the sobering World War II site of El Alamein. The tour includes visits to the Military Museum and Allied Cemetery, before returning to Alexandria for an evening at leisure.
Breakfast and a relaxed morning before you are met for your journey back to the airport, and then home.
