Sahara Adventure in Egypt

This excursion from Cairo will see you leaving the city behind as you journey into a vast desert landscape with endless rolling sand dunes. Just 1.5 hours out of the city, travelling by 4×4 with an experienced local driver, you’ll weave across the dunes, or, if you’re feeling a little adventurous, stop to try your hand at sandboarding down their soft slopes.

As the desert opens up, the turquoise waters of Magic Lake come into view, an unexpected oasis of colour in the middle of the sands. It’s a brilliant place to top, enjoy a Bedouin tea, or sit down to a simple barbecue surrounded by nothing but silence and space.

To understand just how ancient this landscape really is, you’ll also visit Wadi El Hitan, the remarkable open-air fossil site known as the Valley of the Whales. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, taking in the preserved whale and shark fossils scattered across the desert floor is a powerful reminder that this vast desert was once an ocean.
