In a prime wildlife spot on the Mopane Tongue, overlooking Xakanaxa Lagoon and on the banks of the Maunachira River, Camp Okuti displays a bold, innovative design the like of which we haven't seen elsewhere in Africa. This unique character is largely accounted for by the seven spacious domed chalets, their curving, arched thatch ceilings and various hidden alcoves creating a delightful living space. Each has wooden floors and cement walls to keep them cool throughout the year, outdoor showers, quirky dcor and private decks overlooking the lagoon or the river. These chalets, including a couple of two bedroom family units, are connected to the public area by raised wooden walkways, which is reassuring given that so much wildlife passes through camp!
The main lodge consists of rondavels under more domed thatch roofs, where there is a lounge with sofas and games, a cosy dining room and bar, an elevated fireplace area for evening drinks and a decked plunge pool with sun loungers overlooking the lagoon. Activities involve game drives and boat cruises on the lagoon and its tributaries. Although night drives are not possible within the Moremi Reserve, Okuti combines perfectly with other Ker & Downey camps on private Delta concessions where these are permitted.
