An increasing number of Moremi camps are now offering fishing excursions, taking advantage of the deep lagoons and permanently flowing rivers in the reserve. This is usually combined with a boat cruise rather than being a long, intensive expedition to catch as many fish as possible! Abundant species in the Okavango include catfish, tigerfish, tilapia and bream, and your camp should enforce a catch and release policy, but the gentle endeavour and beautiful surrounds are usually the main focus.

Beginners are certainly welcome to try their hand, and while more complicated expeditions can usually be tailored for keen anglers, the more dedicated fishing destinations of the Caprivi Strip and the Panhandle are arguably more suitable for experts. Another attractive option for keen fishermen is to book onto a mobile boating safari passing through the Moremi, which will almost certainly offer fishing activities while you are on board.
