Nestled in a rocky amphitheatre where Wadi Dana exits the mountains and the floodplain opens out, Feynan Eco-Lodge is a unique hotel in Jordan. Made entirely in traditional building style and is powered exclusively by solar panels. At night, the only lighting comes from candlelight, reflected back by shards of glass and mirror. The rooms are simply decorated: smooth earthen walls have niches for storage and mosquito nets over the beds; all have ensuite bathrooms with solar-heated showers. The food consists of entirely vegetarian Arabic cooking, using produce found in the reserve and from a nearby organic farm. The lodge is very remote, reached either by hiking down from Dana Guesthouse or along a long dirt road. It's a great base for hiking and biking (mountain bikes are provided) into the surrounding hills that are dotted with ancient archaeological sites. Feynan is a magical place and the eco-lodge is simply the best way to enjoy it.
