Your tailor-made holiday will be as unique as you are. These itineraries are just a starting point, a bit of inspiration to show what’s possible. Your own trip all starts with a conversation with one of our Oman experts, who’ll take the time to understand what matters most to you and design the perfect holiday to match.
Oman is a fantastic option for a family holiday, laid-back, welcoming, and packed with adventure that’s just the right level of exciting. We’ve designed this itinerary with a mix of exploration and downtime, finishing with a few well-earned days on the coast near Muscat, where spacious resorts, big pools and sandy beaches make it easy to switch off and enjoy some sunshine together.
Along the way, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained – desert dunes to climb, caves to explore, dolphins to spot, and even the chance to see turtles nesting if you’re travelling at the right time. You can do it all with a guide or take it at your own pace with a family road trip in a hire car.
Best of all, Omanis are famously friendly, which makes travelling with kids feel genuinely easy. It’s a brilliant way to introduce younger travellers to the sights, sounds and flavours of the Middle East – bold, beautiful, and surprisingly simple to explore together.
Here's a summary of what you might get up to day-to-day on this Oman holiday. As always, this is just an idea. Every single day of your trip will be tailored to suit you.
Your adventure begins with an overnight flight from the UK to Muscat today. The direct route on offer from Oman Air is a stress-free option, perfect for families with kids in tow. If you'd like to look at a more cost-effective alternative, though, there are indirect flights that stop off at a Middle Eastern hub. As always, chat to us and we'll help to find the best option for your family.
Your family adventure really begins when you touch down in Muscat, where you’ll be greeted by your private driver and transferred to your hotel. There are a host of brilliant family-friendly properties in Muscat, all with spacious grounds, sprawling pools, and easy beach access. Settle in for a three-night stay and enjoy some downtime after your journey.

You’ll visit the stunning Grand Mosque, a masterpiece of Islamic architecture and the Sultan’s Palace, a striking landmark in the city. Stroll through the lively Muttrah Souq, filled with treasures like frankincense, spices, and trinkets perfect for curious kids. Your tour will be tailored to be family-friendly, and the guides are brilliant at keeping younger travellers engaged from start to finish.
Today, you’ll take to the water on a family-friendly boat trip to spot dolphins in the Gulf of Oman. Kids will love the excitement of spotting them playfully leaping from the water, and the scenic coastline will provide the perfect backdrop for memorable family photos. This afternoon, enjoy some beach time at your hotel or explore Muscat’s waterfront Corniche.
If you’re self-driving, your car will be delivered to your hotel today; otherwise, your driver will pick you up. You’ll travel through the dramatic Sumail Gap into the Hajar Mountains, en route to Nizwa, where you’ll stay for two nights. We'll be sure to choose a hotel that's known for its comfort and welcoming Omani atmosphere, one that's ideal for your family.
Start the day at the busy and vibrant Nizwa Souq, it’s a real Aladdin’s Cave, and children will love exploring all of the trinkets and stalls. If you’re visiting on a Friday, it’s market day and you can’t miss the livestock auction – a real slice of Omani tradition. Explore Nizwa Fort, with its winding passages and panoramic views from the tower. Later, you’ll journey to the Wadi Ghul plateau, to take in the sprawling views over Wadi Ghul, Oman’s 'Grand Canyon', before visiting the fascinating Al-Hoota Cave with its underground lakes and ancient rock formations.
You’ll drive west to the edge of the Wahiba Sands today, where you’ll be met by your 4x4 driver and whisked off to your desert camp for the night – a stay that will be a highlight for all the family. The ride through the dunes is an adventure in itself, and at the end, sandy adventures will be waiting. Kids will love the chance to run on the dunes, watch the sunset over the sands, and enjoy the starry sky around the roaring campfire.
This morning, you’ll head off on visits to the intriguing villages of Jalaan Bani Bu Ali and Jalaan Bani Bu Hassan, where you can get a real and authentic flavour of traditional Omani life. Next up, you’ll continue to Sur and Ras al-Jinz, staying in one of the lovely local hotels. This evening, you’ll join a guided beach walk with a local guide to see the turtles nesting – an unforgettable experience for big kids and small kids alike.
Hit the scenic coastal road today and head back to Muscat, stopping at plenty of natural wonders along the way. Passing the palm-lined canyons of Wadi Shab and Tiwi, don’t miss stopping off to peer into the striking Bimmah Sinkhole. Check into your family-friendly beach hotel – in either Muscat or Mussanah – for the next four nights, we’ll make sure it’s perfect for you.
We recommend heading out to the Batinah Plain today, known as the breadbasket of Oman, and visiting the impressive forts of Rustaq and Nakhl. These historic sites offer fascinating glimpses into Oman’s past, perfect for a good slice of culture.
We've left the last few holiday days clear for you to soak up the sun and enjoy your hotel’s family-focused amenities. Whether it’s splashing in the pool, building sandcastles on the beach, diving beneath the waves or indulging in a spa treatment, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Of course, if you'd like a little more adventure just chat to us, there are plenty of additional excursions we can arrange in the area.
Your family adventure comes to an end today as you return your hire car or meet your driver for a transfer back to the airport. We hope you’ll be leaving Oman with unforgettable memories of its friendly culture, stunning landscapes, and plenty of memories made.
