The heart of Oman’s appeal is found in the combination of stunning natural scenery, an attractive and preserved heritage, and a unique, well-managed blend of ancient and modern Arabian worlds. The good news is that much of this diversity is close together; you can be in the heart of Muscat, then in the space of a few hours' drive, find yourself in the back and beyond in the mountains. So, you don’t need to spend too long in Oman, or spend hours on end in the car each day, to see many of the country’s greatest highlights.
We’ve designed this Oman holiday to showcase all of this, starting with two days in the capital, Muscat. Next up, you’ll wind your way through the forts, mountains and deserts of the interior, before finishing back in Muscat for a relaxing coastal end to your trip. We’ve packed plenty of culture and exploring into your first few days in Muscat, leaving the final section at a beach hotel, a relaxing way of finishing an otherwise jam-packed, thrilling trip.

Today you’ll leave the UK on your overnight flight to Muscat. If you’d like the ease of a direct flight, there are great options with Oman Air. Or, opt for a more budget-friendly option with a connection through a Middle Eastern hub. As always, chat to us and we'll help to find the best option for you.
Your adventure really begins when you touch down in Muscat and meet your friendly private driver for a seamless transfer to your hotel, where you’ll stay for two nights. From luxury resorts to boutique-style accommodation, there are plenty of brilliant options to choose from in Muscat, we’ll be sure to sift through the potentials and find the perfect fit for you.
Today, you’ll set off on a guided tour of Muscat. There are plenty of highlights to see, including the striking Sultan’s Palace, the majestic Grand Mosque, and taking a stroll through the lively Muttrah souq. It’s the perfect way to dive, all senses first, into the history and charm of Oman’s capital city. And, even better, you'll have a local guide to lead the way.
Next up, you’ll head north to explore the Batinah Plain and visit the impressive forts of Rostaq and Nakhal. From here, journey through the dramatic Wadi Bani Awf, with its winding roads and rugged cliffs, it's an adventure in itself. If you’re self-driving, a simpler route through the Sumail Gap is a great alternative. You’ll be spending the next three nights in the Nizwa area.
Today, you’ll venture into the stunning Hajar Mountains ready to be wowed by Wadi Ghul, Oman’s answer to the Grand Canyon, and visit dramatically perched mountain villages like Misfah. With its breathtaking views and timeless atmosphere, this region is a real hiker’s paradise. So don’t forget to pack your walking boots if you fancy an explore. If you'd like more of a structured day, chat to us; there are guided local walks and plenty of other excursions we could recommend and arrange.
You’ll spend the day exploring the imposing forts and historic towns of Oman’s interior today. Highlights include the grand Nizwa Fort, the intricately designed Jabreen Castle, and the UNESCO-recognised Bahla Fort. If it’s a Friday, don’t miss the lively livestock auction at Nizwa Souq – such a brilliant and vibrant glimpse into local life. We can make sure we time your holiday itinerary around it if this would be of particular interest to you!
Leave the mountains behind today as you head for the sweeping dunes of the Wahiba Sands. You'll spend the night in one of our recommended desert camps, ready to enjoy a rustic yet magical evening under a blanket of stars. There are plenty of desert adventures to be had, from dune bashing to camel rides, chat to us and we'll help plan the perfect sandy excursions for you.
Begin your journey back to Muscat today, stopping at the tranquil pools of Wadi Bani Khalid on the way. We also recommend stopping by the historic town of Sur, where you can see traditional dhow boats still being built in the same way today. Follow the coastal road, passing the palm-lined rivers of Wadi Shab and Tiwi, and don’t miss peering into the natural wonder of Bimmah Sinkhole. Arrive at your beachside hotel for a relaxing two-night stay on the coast near Muscat. There are some great beachside hotel options, we’ll be sure to pick out the best one for you.
Spend the day unwinding at your hotel today. Lounging by the beach, taking a refreshing dip in the pool, or indulging in some spa treatments – whatever you choose, this spot is the perfect place to recharge after an adventure-filled trip.
