If you are looking for a simple island escape, where you can switch off and truly unwind, Minang Cove may just be the answer. A treasure on Tioman, this small hotel features 12 humble chalets and 2 villas – beachfront to lap up the ocean at your doorstep, or climb up the cobbled steps on the hill for breath-taking sea views. Nestled in tropical gardens and unspoilt rainforest, the rooms have no frills but with this location they really don’t need any. Dine on the terrace to enjoy local and western fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Games and books are on offer for all to enjoy as WiFi and TV's are a no no here. As the sun sets guests are invited to join the team with the evening shark feed of the docile black tip reef sharks. Days are usually spent snorkelling the cove, trekking the jungle paths to the nearby Tunamaya, Bagus Place or local Malay village of Mukut or venture further afield on an ocean discovery with the in-house dive school.

Excursion

Tioman Jungle Trekking

A variety of treks can be done across the island, ranging from leisurely paved hikes between resorts or beaches to the more adventurous, sweat inducing Tekek to Juara Jungle Walk. This 7km hike takes you through Tioman’s tropical interiors across the island. The beach is well worth the effort. Guides can be hired from hotels, or if not required the front desk team can give directions. Always be sure to carry water when hiking, as well as a torch and poncho. Wildlife is abundant in Tioman and walkers are often rewarded with some great spots including long tailed macaques, black giant squirrels, porcupines, pythons and by night the endangered binturong. We recommend closed shoes as snakes are common on the island.

Snorkelling & Diving

A diver’s paradise, Tioman has many good dive centres, some of which are located in resort at our preferred hotels. PADI courses are available but please ensure that you are staying long enough on the island and do book ahead during the busy months. If diving the depths isn’t quite your thing then we highly recommend grabbing a snorkel and joining a boat trip or paddling in from shore for a breath-taking view of the ocean floor. Snorkelers will be delighted to learn that a lot can be seen in a short time, and close to your resort as well. A perfect option for families and adults alike. Equipment available can be basic so advanced snorkelers may prefer to bring their kit with them.
