Chambal River Bird Watching in

Excursion Overview

The Chambal river banks are the ideal habitat for numerous migratory and resident birds. One can easily spot colonies of the rare Indian skimmer, greater thicknee, the comb duck, brahmani duck, bar-headed goose, spoonbill, herons, kingfishers, fishing eagles, flamingos, pelicans, cormorants and partridges. As you travel by small motorboat on the calm and placid Chambal waters you may also spot marsh crocodiles, numerous gharials (long-nosed fish eating crocodiles), turtles, and if particularly lucky, the very rare gangetic fresh water dolphin. Trained naturalists are on hand to help locate and identify the numerous species. The river safari is a unique experience, quite unlike any other game safari in India. The untamed ravines, wildlife, gently sloping fields and the sheer sense of solitude all combine to make this a great experience.
