One of Cusco’s most historic hotels, Monasterio, A Belmond Hotel, Cusco was one of the original luxury hotels to be opened by the Belmond group in Peru and is a memorable place to stay. The monastery itself can be dated to 1592 and has been sensitively restored to retain a traditional style reflecting its rich history, at the same time offering guests modern amenities and luxurious touches. Various categories of guest rooms and suites are arranged around manicured central courtyards, and it is still possible to visit the monastery’s chapel and peruse its own art collection. You therefore do not have to go far to soak in the rich culture of the city, though the hotel’s enviable position on tranquil Plaza Nazarenas makes it just a short stroll from the artisan district of San Blas and Cusco’s main Plaza de Armas.
