Wanuskewin Heritage Park is a moving and memorable visit just north of Saskatoon, offering the chance to connect with the living cultures of Northern Plains Indigenous peoples in a place that has been a gathering ground for more than 6,400 years. Set above opimihāw Creek and the South Saskatchewan River, the park blends culture, history, nature and wide-open prairie scenery in a way that feels both peaceful and deeply significant.
General admission gives you access to the Visitor Centre, where you’ll find permanent exhibits, two art galleries, and a well-stocked gift shop. Outside, you can explore almost 7 km of trails, take in the views across the valley, and visit the bison viewing platform. As part of the park’s grasslands restoration work, a small herd of Plains bison was reintroduced in 2019, and the conservation herd has since grown, making bison-spotting a real highlight for many visitors.
If you’re visiting in the warmer months, you may also be able to catch a dance or music presentation, which adds a wonderful extra layer to the experience. From May to the September long weekend, there’s typically a daily afternoon presentation, with weekend presentations running year-round.
