One of the newest accommodations serving the Sossusvlei area, Hoodia Desert Lodge has a friendly, relaxed feel with comfortable, discreet accommodation and excellent home-cooked food. There are 12 thatched chalets, sympathetically spaced out either side of the main lodge to guarantee peace and privacy. Inside there are wooden floors and furniture offset against colourful textiles, with en suite bathrooms and large windows permitting plenty of light to enter. External features include a private veranda with sweeping desert or mountain views, outside showers and a good sized open-air bathtub.
The central lodge has a cosy lounge leading down to the restaurant, serving delicacies cooked by local chefs amidst excellent vistas through the windows out to the desert. The usual guided activities exploring the Sossusvlei dunes and Naukluft Mountains are available, while independent self-drivers receive useful advice on how best to discover the area, and there is a lovely outside swimming pool to cool off in the downtime between exploring. Owner run and unpretentious, the service here is first class and the lodge one of our favourites in the desert.
