Your tailor-made holiday will be as unique as you are. These itineraries are just a starting point, a bit of inspiration to show what’s possible. Your own trip all starts with a conversation with one of our India experts, who’ll take the time to understand what matters most to you and design the perfect holiday to match.
This well-paced itinerary focuses on one of India's friendliest and stunning destinations, the highlights of Karnataka and North Kerala. A less than 10-hour direct flight from London to Bangalore, South India, is a perfect family-friendly destination for those seeking a family holiday with a side of adventure for their travelling teens.
There’s so much at every turn to keep all members of the family entertained, as well as opening the kids’ (and adults'!) eyes to new cultures and ways of life. This itinerary keeps things flexible – you can keep an adrenaline junkie teen happy while equally pleasing those who love the pool-side – everyone can do what they want, whenever they feel like it. And all of this can be enjoyed within the space of a half-term break! We recommend traveling to South India from late October until the end of April, the temperatures start to soar in May!
Here's a summary of what you might get up to day-to-day on this India holiday. As always, this is just an idea. Every single day of your trip will be tailored to suit you.
Your big family adventure begins today with an overnight flight from the UK to Bangalore.
After landing in Bangalore, you'll travel straight to Mysore to check into your family-friendly accommodation and spend the rest of the day doing as little or as much as you like. Mysore is one of the most fascinating cities in South India. There are magnificent palaces to visit, colourful markets to browse, and plenty of vibrant culture to soak up. We'd really recommend including a homestay experience during your time here, it's an unmatched way to get under the skin of the city and meet the people.
Today, you'll head off on a fun, quirky and family-friendly guided tour of Mysore by rickshaw or bike. You'll visit the City Palace of the Maharaja of Mysore, a real must see! Don't miss out on sampling the fresh flavours at the fruit and vegetable market, sip on a coffee in a local hangout, and try some snacks and sweets from some of the local vendors.
Today, an unforgettable day is in store as you journey towards Nagarhole National Park. After checking into your accommodation for the next three nights, you'll head off in search of wildlife as a Junior Ranger in the park. Home to elephants and tigers, you might just be lucky enough to spot them on the river banks on your boat safari this evening.
Set your alarms early this morning as you head off on a jeep safari into the park. The wildlife is often at its most active first thing, before the heat of the day kicks in. So who knows what you might be lucky enough to spot?! You'll be accompanied by a naturalist and a park ranger who are brilliant at helping you identify the wildlife, spot tracks, and catch a glimpse of animals you may have otherwise missed.
Today, a slice of rural India awaits. You'll take a walk with your guide through a typical Karnataka rural village, enjoy a traditional coracle ride on the river and watch as day-to-day life unfolds in the Indian countryside. Venture back into the National Park later for another wildlife adventure.
Today, you'll journey to Wayanad, where you'll stay amidst coffee and spice plantations right in the heart of the rainforest. Wayanad is a great location for outdoor enthusiasts, offering night hikes, cycling, bamboo rafting, and zip-lining. It's one of our favourite India locations for families!
Surrounded by waterfalls, trails and peaks, Wayanad is a base for trekking, cycling or even coracle rides. Spend this afternoon taking a plantation walk, learning all about tea production, visiting the prehistoric Edakkal caves, or bobbing around in the spring-fed lake.
We've left today clear for you to enjoy however you please. Head out to explore more of the local area or choose to simply chill by the pool with a good book and a good dose of family fun.
Today, you'll journey across the Western Ghats, and travel out of the hills to the Arabian Sea. You'll spend the next three nights staying in Neeleshwar. It's a really interesting village in Northern Kerala, with plenty of activities to keep the family busy!
The last two full days of your India family holiday are free to fill however you please. You could choose to head off on a kayaking adventure along the Keralan backwaters, take a cruise on a traditional houseboat, or simply relax and enjoy the pool at your hotel. The Neeleshwar district is famous for Theyyam, a divine ritual dance. You'll have the chance to watch this seasonal folk art at your hotel one evening before heading home.
This morning, you India family holiday comes to an end as you transfer to Mangalore airport to hop on your connecting international flight from either Bangalore or Mumbai. You may wish to extend your holiday with a night discovering the cosmopolitan city of Mumbai, home of Bollywood.
