The Wickaninnish, fondly referred to as ‘the Wick’, is the granddaddy of west coast accommodation; a beautiful Relais & Châteaux property that offers a luxurious retreat in a remarkable location. The hotel is perched on a small rocky promontory at one end of Chesterman Beach, looking directly out over the Pacific Ocean and surrounded by pure, rugged scenery. The hotel is set in two buildings with extensive forested grounds and retains a connection with its environment through its design. The main entranceway is made from hand-carved cedar, the lobby has 20-foot-high windows with sweeping views down to the beach, and rooms also have large picture windows, along with simple, Pacific-inspired colours and handmade driftwood ornamentation. All rooms have a king or queen bed, fireplace, seating area, and double-sized soaker bathtub.
The Pointe Restaurant is one of Tofino’s top restaurants, offering refined West Coast cuisine with a beautiful ocean backdrop (booking recommended), whilst On the Rocks bar and lounge is a more casual spot to enjoy a sundowner and light meal.
The hotel has a library full of historic artefacts and books about the local area. This room was actually designed for winter storm watching but is a cosy and relaxing space at any time of year. There is a high-quality wellness spa and a small fitness centre; however, we really recommend getting outdoors and enjoying the many walking trails around the property. Alternatively, follow the self-guided art tour around the two hotel buildings and surrounding grounds, home to an array of inspiring local pieces.
