Bahia Bustamante is a unique coastal estancia south of Peninsula Valdes. It was once a complete village built to process seaweed in the 50s with its own church, school and even police department. Today it has been renovated to form a charming and really off off-grid wildlife paradise. Soak up the history of the first settlers here as well as the chance to roam deserted coastline awash with marine mammals and birds. Note that the whales do not come this far south, so if on your wishlist, then combine Bustamante with a stay in Puerto Madryn.
The style is pared back and quirky but still very comfortable with an emphasis on connecting with the surrounding nature and landscape. Seaview cabins have two bedrooms, a bathroom and living room as well as an ocean front terrace with stylish extras such as Espresso machine and Bluetooth speakers. The main lodge, once the General Store, now houses all you will need from the restaurant which serves local food based on seaweed, lamb and fish as well as organic produce, to the library, bar and lounge, a games room and a little local museum. Boat trips, trekking, riding, ranch visits, 4×4 tours, biking and swimming in natural pools all feature in your stay here.
