Cuicocha Lake

You will visit the spectacular Cuicocha Lake with your guide. Originally formed by a volcanic crater, it is a breathtaking site. The towering Cotacachi volcano above is extinct, but there are deep fissures in the rocks below, which means the bubbling gasses can be seen emerging from the water. The two islands you will see within the lake have been formed by resurgent volcanoes.

Papallacta Hot Springs

Amongst breath-taking surroundings you’ll visit the Papallacta hot springs, just a short drive from Quito. The Thermal Springs Resort is nestled high into the Andean Cordillera, on the fringe of the Amazon jungle. There are a number of thermal pools to enjoy with differing temperatures, and for those with ultimate relaxation in mind you may want to treat yourselves to a spa treatment.

Teleferico Cable Car

For spectacular views over Quito take the teleferico or cable car. Built over an area of over 160 hectares on the outskirts of Pichincha, the cable car reaches heights of 4050 metres at the summit of Cruz Loma. Quito is surrounded by dramatic mountainous and volcanic landscapes, so on a clear day you are rewarded with sights of more than fourteen peaks. There is a development with cafes, shops and even an amusement park at the site.

Hiking at Cuicocha Lake

Hike roughly ten miles with your guide to circumnavigate the spectacular lake at Cuicocha. Originally formed by a volcanic crater, it is a breathtaking site. Although the towering volcano of Cotacachi is extinct, there are deep fissures in the rocks below which means the bubbling gasses can be seen emerging from the water. The two islands within the lake have been formed by resurgent volcanoes. The walk is easy to moderate and takes up to six hours. It is important to note that the walk will be at an altitude of 3000-3400 metres, so it can feel more challenging at this height.

Quito Culinary Tour

You will explore the streets of the historic district with your guide, learning about the history and locally produced delicacies of Ecuador. You will visit the hidden artisan sweet and pastry shops, sample finest Ecuadorian chocolate in the cacao factory and taste some of the legendary deserts. Coffee is also on the agenda today, and you will learn about as well and sample fine blends.
