Hotel overview

The Tides Inn is a cosy, oceanfront base right in the heart of Gros Morne National Park, set in the little harbour town of Norris Point. It’s a great place to slow the pace and enjoy the views, while still being well positioned for exploring the park, with the Bonne Bay Marine Station only a short drive away (around 1.2 km) and Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse within easy reach too (around 13 km). Most rooms look out over the water, so even downtime here still feels very “Gros Morne”.

Accommodation is small-scale and straightforward, with just nine rooms, each set up with either two queen beds or one king. Rooms come with the useful practical touches that make road trip life easier, including a TV, coffee maker, microwave and mini fridge, plus an iron and ironing board. If you like the idea of a bit of extra comfort after a day hiking, the King Rooms come with a jacuzzi, which is a lovely perk for winding down in the evening.

Breakfast is included during the main season (from 16 May to 30 September), and WiFi and parking are included, keeping things simple. The only thing to note is that if you’ll be arriving after 5pm, it’s best to contact the inn in advance so they can provide check-in instructions.

Guided by storytelling and symbolism, you’ll craft your own moose hide medicine bag while learning about its traditional purpose and the idea of setting intention through what you create. There’s time to add simple beadwork and details that reflect your own personality and spirit, so no two bags ever feel the same. Along the way, the Trickster makes an appearance, bringing humour and playful stories that encourage reflection and conversation in a relaxed, welcoming setting. It’s less about ticking off a “must do” and more about spending an hour doing something thoughtful and hands-on, with a genuine sense of community. The session finishes with a shared moment to unwind, rounding things off in a calm, memorable way. This experience runs year-round and is best suited to adults and older children (it isn’t suitable for under 10s).

St John's Harbour Cruise

Join the MV Iceberg Quest and see St John’s and the beautiful Newfoundland coastline from the water. You cruise through the Narrows at the entrance to the harbour and meander along the coast looking for local wildlife such as puffins, seals and seabirds; on occasion humpback whales are also seen. Informative commentary along the way will give you an insight in to the unique way of life of the Newfoundlanders, and you can enjoy scenic views of the city as you return to shore.

Western Brook Pond is a landlocked fjord at the heart of Gros Morne National Park and offers breath-taking scenery along with incredible tranquillity. This two-hour boat tour cruises past rain-forest clad cliffs and tumbling waterfalls, and is accompanied by interesting commentary on the geology and history of the fjord. This unique environment is also home to salmon and Arctic Char as well as a range of birdlife which you may be lucky enough to encounter along the way. Note: the departure point for the tour is a three kilometre walk from the parking lot. Refreshments are available at the dock (cash only).

The menu leans into fresh, local and sustainable ingredients, and the evening is woven together with stories and character that make it feel like far more than a meal, it’s a warm introduction to Newfoundland hospitality. It’s a relaxed, guided group experience and ideal if you want to sample the best of the area without needing to plan where to eat each night. Dietary needs can be catered for with advance notice, and because the tour only runs with a minimum number of guests, it’s worth booking ahead where possible.
