At the heart of the experience is time spent on the beach around a campfire, where traditional foods such as bannock and smoked capelin are shared while an Indigenous guide brings the setting to life with cultural stories and local knowledge. With no facilities on the beach, it feels wonderfully remote and immersive, the kind of experience that stays with you long after you’ve left the shore. As with any coastal outing, conditions can shape the day, and in the event of strong wind or heavy rain the experience can be adapted to a more sheltered setting. It’s best suited to adults and older children, and it’s a standout option if you’re looking for something that feels both authentic and memorable, rather than just another boat trip.

Medicine Bag and Trickster Workshop

The Medicine Bag and Trickster Workshop is a warm, creative way to connect with Indigenous culture in Gros Morne, giving you the chance to slow down, listen, make something meaningful, and leave with a personal keepsake. Guided by storytelling and symbolism, you’ll craft your own moose hide medicine bag while learning about its traditional purpose and the idea of setting intention through what you create. There’s time to add simple beadwork and details that reflect your own personality and spirit, so no two bags ever feel the same. Along the way, the Trickster makes an appearance, bringing humour and playful stories that encourage reflection and conversation in a relaxed, welcoming setting. It’s less about ticking off a “must do” and more about spending an hour doing something thoughtful and hands-on, with a genuine sense of community. The session finishes with a shared moment to unwind, rounding things off in a calm, memorable way. This experience runs year-round and is best suited to adults and older children (it isn’t suitable for under 10s).

Bonne Bay Boat Tour

Climb aboard the MV Emm-Cat, a spacious catamaran, and prepare for an unforgettable two-hour cruise through the breathtaking scenery of Bonne Bay, located in the heart of Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This remarkable bay is surrounded by dramatic landscapes, including ancient cliffs, lush forests, and striking geological formations that make it one of Canada’s most spectacular settings. Throughout the journey, live commentary from the knowledgeable crew highlights the geological wonders and rich cultural history of the region. Learn about the unique geology of Gros Morne and gain fascinating insights into the vibrant cultural heritage of Newfoundland. Make sure to keep your camera ready, as Bonne Bay is teeming with wildlife. Eagles soar overhead, moose are sometimes spotted along the shore, and whales occasionally make an appearance in the bay’s pristine waters. Seabirds and other marine life further add to the incredible biodiversity of this unique location. We highly recommend participating in the age-old Newfoundland ritual known as a “screech-in.” This lively ceremony features traditional music, a Cod fish, a Sou’wester, and a sample of the famous Newfoundland Screech rum. Complete the ritual to become an “honorary Newfoundlander” and receive a certificate to commemorate this memorable experience.
