Cliff’s Edge Retreat is a dramatic coastal base on the Irish Loop, set about 45 minutes south of St. John’s in Bauline South, with the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve right in front of you. The views are the headline here, with open ocean and the reserve’s seabird islands on the horizon, so it’s a brilliant choice if you’re travelling for scenery, fresh air and easy access to coastal walks without feeling miles from the city.

Accommodation is a mix of air-conditioned suites and cottage-style options, all designed with a practical, self-contained feel. The standard suites come with the useful essentials for a relaxed stay, including a microwave, mini fridge and coffee maker, while the Seaside Cottages offer more of a “little home by the water” vibe, with ocean views and, in some cases, a private hot tub. If you’re celebrating or just want something properly special, the higher-end suites are the real standouts. The Cliff Hanger Suite sits right on the cliff edge looking straight out over the reserve, with a big deck, private hot tub and sauna, plus a full kitchen and a cosy living room with fireplace, making it a fantastic option if you want to spend as much time at the property as you do exploring. The Eagle’s Nest Suite is the most indulgent, arranged over two levels with panoramic windows facing the sea, a full kitchen and living space, and a wrap-around deck outside with a hot tub, sauna and even an outdoor fire pit set-up, so it’s built for long evenings watching the light change across the water.

From April through September, the wildlife viewing can be a real treat, with puffins and other seabirds returning to the area, and humpback whales often passing through too, which you can sometimes spot from the property itself. On site you’ve also got a café, a shared fire pit area for a relaxed end to the day, and laundry facilities available for a small charge. WiFi and parking are included, keeping everything straightforward while you focus on the landscapes, the walking, and the sheer scale of the coastline right outside your door.
