Built in 1854 as The Imperial Hotel and later re-established as The Taj Connemara, this property is arguably Chennai’s most gracious and historic hotel. Geoffrey Bawa even added his touch in 1974, adding the new tower block and pool. There are 150 spacious rooms in total that are classic in design; expect large beds, marble bathrooms and traditional furnishings that blend well with the Art Deco architecture. The large pool sits centrally, and close by are several restaurants that include Raintree, famed for its Chettinad inspired cuisine and Veranda that serves breakfast and lunch. The property also offers a good spa. This is an excellent option for those wishing to stay in a peaceful hotel in central Chennai.
