Rohet Garh is a wonderful family run heritage retreat and absolutely perfect for those who like to avoid city life in India. Rooms are scattered around the 375-year-old fortified desert home which lies on the banks of a small lake. With oodles of space to relax in from grassy courtyards to pretty gardens, from the turquoise pool to the stunning roof top terrace there’s no reason to stay less than two or three nights here. The Singh family are also highly respected locally and are lovers of nature and the great outdoors. This means Rohet Garh is one of the best options in rural Rajasthan should you want to explore Bishnoi villages and farming communities or even head out on horseback.
Location
Rohet sits on the edge of the Thar Desert just south of Jodhpur and is a great place to stop if travelling between Jodhpur and Udaipur. The area was originally a Bishnoi settlement, a local tribe attracted to the area due to the large lake that is now home to hundreds of birds. The area is very traditional and centred around farming, offering a peaceful place to relax or an interesting place to explore by jeep, on foot or by horse. Rohet Garh, along with Mihir Garh and Wilderness Camp are all fantastic places to stay in the area.
