Udaipur is arguably one of the most romantic destinations in India, if not Asia. Perched beside the glistening Lake Pichola, with the wooded Aravalli hills in the distance, Udaipur’s cream and rose hues and enormous City Palace encapsulate romantic India. The city is jam packed with marvellous whitewashed havelis, fanciful palaces and ornate temples snuggled within countless winding streets. The Lake Palace, Udaipur’s iconic sight, is one of India’s most photographed locations. The ornate white palace, nowadays a luxury hotel, appears to be floating at the centre of Lake Pichola and truly comes to life in the evening when it’s illuminated by hundreds of spotlights. Udaipur sadly isn’t as untouched as it was in 1983 when James Bond swam, disguised as a crocodile, to The Lake Palace in the film Octopussy, but we feel it has retained most of its magic. Whether you stroll through the narrow streets, enjoy sun-downers overlooking Lake Pichola, or head out to the hills on foot, you are sure to succumb to its charms.
