A quaint, 15 room hotel designed in traditional Khmer style, with rooms raised on wooden stilts and located just a 10 minute tuk tuk ride from the centre of Battambang. Be warned, this is no 5 star rural retreat, but instead a beautiful slice of traditional village life with excellent service from the particularly friendly staff. Nothing is ever too much trouble and you will be sure to be greeted with a beautiful Cambodian smile each and every day.
Although a traditional style property, don’t let that deceive you; Maisons Wat Kor’s rooms all feature a range of modern facilities, including Wi-Fi. As well as an inviting swimming pool, bar and reading room, the hotel features a great restaurant offering exquisite Khmer food. After a long day out sightseeing be sure to try a fresh lemon grass or basil iced tea in the afternoon (guests adore them!).
The Wat Kor village is nationally known for it’s historically-significant Khmer houses, built of now-rare hardwoods almost a century ago and surrounded by orchard gardens and exuding the ambiance of another era. One of the most interesting is Khor Sang House, its floors worn lustrous by a century of bare feet. Decorated with old furniture, family photos and old school certificates, it was built in 1907 by the French-speaking owner’s grandfather, who served as a secretary to the province’s last Thai governor. The back section dates from 1890. Several of these historical houses are open for informal tours in which the owner asks for a small donation of your choosing.
