Built in 1995, The Sukau Rainforest Lodge (SRL) is perched on the bank of the Kinabatangan River in Borneo, one of Asia’s most important waterways. SRL was the first lodge in the area designed based on ecotourism principles. The lodge provides a great wildlife experience to tourists while preserving the Kinabatangan flood-plain. SRL embraces conservation, community development and sustainable tourism as part of its green policies.

Featuring a 1,500ft long board walk, 4 wildlife viewing platforms ideal for birders and an open-air lounge the boutique lodge is an exceptional place to relax and view the local wildlife. There are 20 villa rooms available with en-suite bathrooms and air-conditioning. Exuding exotic Borneo vibes and lush comforts, these are some of the most luxurious rooms on the river. Tucked back into the rainforest the villas are surrounded by wildlife, so perfect for nature lovers. Many guests have been lucky enough to spot Orangutan swinging through the trees behind the lodge, as well as spotting elephants swimming in the river directly in front of the lodge.

A newly renovated pool area is the prime place to relax in-between river cruises and jungle walks. The open dining areas serves tasty buffet style food for all meals, whilst the lounge and library offer the perfect place for an evening wind down or to listen to the excellent wildlife talks by the in-house experts. Trails can be explored directly from the lodge. For tired feet excellent food massages are available.

Frequented by high profile guests including Sir David Attenborough, the lodge is a popular option in Kinabatangan and can get booked up early so early reservations are always recommended.
