KK Beach is a recent addition to our preferred range of options on the coast close to Galle. We have been happily using its sister property in the hills inland, Kahanda Kanda for a number of years, so we are certain that the standards of food, service and enjoyment will be reliably high. About 20 minutes east of Galle itself, KK Beach occupies a great position directly on the spectacular Habaraduwa Beach and its cool white elegance and calm atmosphere provide the opportunity for some serious relaxation. With only 10 rooms (all facing the ocean), an excellent restaurant and plenty to do nearby, it really is boutique perfection.

Whale and Dolphin Watching from Mirissa

  Between December and April both blue and sperm whales can be found close to the coast of Sri Lanka, nearby to Mirissa, which is just 1 hour east of Galle. This region has emerged as one of the world’s major whale watching destinations and during the December-April period whale sightings are fairly likely as the whales annually migrate from the Bay of Bengal.  Blue whales are the largest animal on earth, and also one of the most endangered, so this is an incredible opportunity to see them close by. The best way to enjoy these magnificent creatures, along with the resident spinner dolphins, is by boat. Our whale-watching trip takes you out for approximately four-five hours in the morning, in either a 35 or 50-seated boat (depending on the popularity that day). The trip begins at 6.45 from Mirissa Harbour and includes life jackets, mineral water, coffee and a king coconut at the end of the tour.

Surf Lesson in Weligama

  Nestled amongst palm trees in a secluded part of the bay lays the surf school. Away from the hustle and bustle of the west part of the coast, you will be greeted with warm smiles as you prepare for your time in the sea. Lapped by the clear ocean waves, you will start with a board walk-through and safety on sand, giving you all the information you need to conquer the waters in no time. Once you are ready, your instructor will lead you into the waves and you will begin the process for real.     As you progress more and more during each attempt, you will notice the beauty of the east side of the bay, with the fishermen readying their nets for the day’s catch and birds lining the beach’s trees for shelter. Your guide will remain with you in the water, giving their breadth of knowledge on how to improve your skill each time you catch another wave. After the lesson has finished, rest your board on the warm sand and enjoy a refreshing drink under the shelter of a traditional beach hut.     Please note:     - Suitable for children over 8 years old     - Duration 1.5 hours     - Bring sun lotion and surf appropriate swimwear     - Available between 8am and 4pm
