Hotel overview

Owned by cricketer Romesh Kaluwitharan, Kalu’s Hideaway is a small, simple eco-friendly hotel and a good base from which to explore Udawalawe National Park. The hotel sits just a mile from the famous Elephant Transit Home and is nestled within five acres of gardens and surrounded by lush forest and tropical shrubs. The property has 14 rooms, a pool, a small spa and a restaurant serving a-la-carte dishes. It’s worth noting the Kalu’s Hideaway does receive outside guests for food, so lunch times can feel a bit busy. The rooms are spacious and decorated with white walls, chunky furniture and comfortable beds. We feel that this is the best boutique hotel option in Udawalawe.
