Game drives

Traditional open safari vehicles driven by licensed experienced guides. In the early morning (exact times vary depending on the season but normally somewhere between 5am to 7am) you will be woken by your guide with a gentle 'knock' at the door and will gather for a quick cup of tea and snack before heading out on the morning drive. The drive is normally around 3 to 4 hours (including a tea and coffee stop in the middle) and you then return for a large cooked breakfast. Some months of the year you will have a larger breakfast before heading out on the morning game drive, meaning that you won't have a breakfast on your return, but will freshen up and then have brunch in the late morning. A lunch and/or high tea will then be served later in the day before heading out (depending on the season between 4pm to 5pm) on the afternoon game drive. The afternoon game drive will stop at sunset for a traditional 'sundowner' with drinks and snacks. You will then continue the rest of the drive in the dark, using a filter light and flash light to look for nocturnal animals. On return to the lodge you will then have time to freshen up before your three course dinner.¬† Land cruisers seat up to nine guests and Land Rovers seat up to seven guests but lodges will always try to take just four (preferred) or a maximum of six guests per vehicle, unless requested otherwise.

San Rock Art

San rock art can be found all over Southern Africa, and Zimbabwe has some superb sites. The San are the indigenous people of Southern Africa who lived a nomadic life and had a very close bond to the nature and wildlife around them, particularly from a spiritual perspective with animals and birds. A lot of the cave paintings that the bushmen drew on cave walls are symbolic of this spiritual relationship with nature.

Rhino Tracking

Rhino are now one of the most treasured and protected species in Africa. Zimbabwe has suffered terribly with rhino poaching and now rhino are only found in a handful of areas within the country. If you have the opportunity to experience tracking these magnificent creatures on foot it is well worth the experience. Rhino are notoriously dangerous, hence being one of the 'Big Five' which are named as the five most dangerous animals to hunt on foot in Africa, but when seen up close in a relaxed environment, it is breath-taking. Particularly when you imagine that rhino are close to extinction, this is an experience that may not be on offer for too much longer, so is worth including on a trip now. Depending on where you are staying, rhino tracking will not be available all year round due to rains, so please make sure you say if this is something you really want to experience so that we can check with the camp that it will be available during your stay.

Visit Cecil Rhodes' Grave

In the Matobo Hills, Cecil John Rhodes is buried in a granite tomb overlooking the beautiful Matopos region. His resting place is aptly named "World's View" and was chosen by himself as he loved the view from the top of this particular outcrop. A guided tour of this area with an expert is highly recommended to get the most out of the history of the area.
