Winelands Golf

Thanks to Gary Player and Ernie Els, golf enjoys a strong following in South Africa, and there are some world-class courses thanks to this legacy. There are historic courses, like the Royal Cape Golf Club, and more modern courses, purpose-built and designed by famous designers, such as the Erinvale course, designed by Gary Player. One thing that all the Cape region courses share is the weather: whilst there will be lots of sun, which is great, there is also quite a bit of wind, making the courses more challenging than they may initially seem! Let us make your tee time reservations for you, and advise you how to fit some golfing into your time in South Africa.

Boschendal Estate

Boschendal has been opening its gates to visitors for many years now, and it shows as they offer a great range of attractions beyond just the wines. Their Manor House dates back to the 17th century, and its classic Cape Dutch architecture has been complimented with restored, genuine furnishings from the same period; the Manor House now functions as a small museum. The grounds are extensive and pretty: you’re invited to walk around, past the dams and through the nature reserve; they’ll even put a picnic together for you, or alternatively the restaurant serves great, simple food. Between all of these, it’s possible to spend at least half a day at Boschendal if you so wish, and if you’re keen just to relax a bit and soak up the scenery and atmosphere.

The beauty of the hotels and guesthouses we work with is their incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff, and you should use them as a resource for helping plan your time. We will give you a few suggestions of estates to visit, as will they: and they will have the kind of insider knowledge that only years living in the region brings. They can then help you plan a route for the day, taking in some of those estates. Of course the beauty of a self-drive tour like this is that you’re entirely on your own schedule and if you change your mind halfway through the day, or are having such a good time somewhere that you don’t want to move on, then the choice is entirely yours. Do remember though that South Africa does enforce its drink-drive laws!

Curated Wine Tram Experience

Designed for true wine connoisseurs and foodies, the Curated Wine Experience is a real treat for the senses! Your knowledgeable wine guide weaves the facts, figures and scientific aspects of winemaking as you make your way around a selection of wine estates for premium tastings and pairings. A tour of one of the estate wine cellars will be followed by a specially curated three-course lunch at the estate restaurant. Prepare to leave this experience feeling more knowledgeable and connected to the local wine culture of Franschhoek and South Africa.

Chocolate & wine tasting

The Waterford Estate is worth visiting for many reasons. Its beautiful, Tuscan architecture is impressive, and the wine maker Kevin Arnold is one of the biggest names in the business, responsible for The Jem, the first South African wine really focused on the very best grapes and the very best techniques, produced in small quantities of amazing quality (and price!). But the most intriguing reason to visit is their chocolate and wine tastings. They have a chocolatier who has specifically designed three chocolates to be eaten with two of their reds and their sweet wine. The chocolates are exclusively for this purpose and cannot be found elsewhere. He has done an amazing job, so good in fact that you can’t actually tell where the taste of the wine finishes and the chocolate starts. It really does have to be tried to be believed!
