Although one of the larger accommodations that we would recommend in Damaraland, Twyfelfontein Country Lodge offers some unique attractions. Foremost is its outstanding location, less than 5km from the impressive Twyfelfontein rock paintings, Namibia's first UNESCO recognised site and a must-visit for anybody passing through this area. The setting is also attractive, in a broad valley under the shadow of Damaraland's trademark rugged outcrops. Varied activities can be enjoyed from the lodge, including guided tours of the rock art site, but it is just as easy to visit under your own steam. Nature drives to search for desert adapted elephants can also be booked, while the large swimming pool is an enticing place to spend downtime between activities.
The lodge is family friendly and good value for money, with 56 en-suite rooms that are relatively simple but well sized and blessedly cool in the hotter months. There is a large, open bar and dining area with a sociable vibe, which can become a little noisy when the overland trucks pass through, but the overwhelming atmosphere at the lodge is unpretentious and relaxed.
