Parrot and Macaw Clay Lick Visit

Visiting a clay lick is one of the most mesmerising sights you are likely to experience during a trip to Ecuador. After patiently waiting at the preferred feeding time, if you're lucky, eleven colourful species of parrot, macaw and parakeet will gingerly approach the clay lick. After the first brave few birds arrive, hundreds more follow and the wall becomes a hive of activity. The clay is said to neutralise toxins or arguably it is said that the clay is preferred for its salt content. Either way, it is a special sight not to be missed.
