Built on the waters edge in the small town of Hanga Roa, the Taha Tai offers a comfortable and convenient base on Easter Island. Rooms and cabanas in the low-rise hotel are simple but spacious and offer great value for money, as each room comes fully equipped with air-conditioning, television and comfortable beds. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, but signal can range from patchy to non-existent, as with most hotels on the remote island! The hotel has plenty of facilities including an outdoor pool area, bar and a restaurant that overlooks the vast Pacific Ocean. One of the huge benefits of staying in the Taha Tai is that the hotel is just a short stroll from restaurants, cultural shows and craft shops. Another perk of the hotels location is its close proximity (15 minutes on foot) from one of the islands must-see historic sites: the ceremonial centre of Tahia.

Orongo & Rano Kau (West)

This half-day shared excursion centres around the impressive extinct Rano Kau Volcano, with its sweeping views over the crater lake, island and the vast Pacific Ocean. The tour will also include the ceremonial village of Orongo where the mythical 'Birdman' competition, a heroic quest for the island’s kinship, took place. Here, you can see distinctive petroglyphs carved into the rocks. On the way back to Hanga Roa you’ll see the unrestored Ahu Vinapu, an altar made of basalt that is reminiscent of pre-Inca architecture.

El Tatio Geysers

You’ll need an early start for your excursion to El Tatio Geysers, which are located a couple of hour's drive from San Pedro de Atacama. These geothermal fields include more than eighty active geysers, with vapour columns spurting from the pools that can reach a dizzying height of up to 12 metres. Enjoy breakfast on site at dawn, before returning to your hotel for lunch. On the return journey, look out for local wildlife including vicunas, foxes and Andean ostriches. This excursion lasts between five and six hours, including transfers and a breakfast enroute, due to the early start. The area is located 4300 metres above sea level.

Ahus Akivi (North West)

Today you will explore three of the most important Moai sites on Easter Island, whilst also having the opportunity to see reconstructions of traditional villages, with houses that resemble upturned canoes with tiny doorways. This half-day shared excursion includes the ceremonial platforms of Ko Te Riku, Tahai and Vai Uri, as well as Moai of various shapes and sizes, all which were restored in 1974. You will continue to Ahu Akivi, to see the row of seven restored Moai; according to legend, these represent the first explorers who arrived on Rapa Nui. Finally, you shall visit the quarry at Puna Pau, where you’ll see the red stone which was used to make the pukau: the moai’s topknots or hair, which were often mistakenly confused as hats or headdresses.

If you only take one trip on Easter Island, this half day excursion covers a wide range of sights: from the Moai heads at Vaihu and the unrestored Akahanga through to the Rano Raraku, a once busy quarry estimated to have given life to over 900 Moai statues. Another highlight of the tour is a stop to see the fifteen proudly lined Moai at Ahu Tongariki, before concluding with some relaxation and a quick swim on the northern white sand beaches of Anakena.

Explore the highlights of the spectacular Easter Island with your private guide.
