Santiago City: 1973 Walking Tour

"Recalling our past to understand our present" Explore the vibrant city of Santiago with an eye-opening historical walking tour. This shared excursion gives an objective, fact-led introduction to Chile's recent turbulent past, providing details of the events that triggered the military coup in 1973 and explaining in detail how the dictatorship has shaped this politically complex country. The expert guides also give a fascinating insight into Chile’s culture and the modern way of life, allowing a more rounded understanding of the country. During the tour you’ll visit the former National Congress, the Espacio M building and the Plaza de la Constitution. The tour begins at 10am each day and lasts for roughly two and a half hours.

Matetic Vineyard

The rolling Casablanca and San Antonio Valleys are just an hour drive from the city. Here you’ll find the welcoming Matetic wine estates, which produce some of Chile’s most prominent and high-quality wines. Take a half day trip with your driver to enjoy a comprehensive visit of the vineyards, which will give an overview of the history and production of the wine, as well as the chance to sample of some of the most popular blends. Santiago City: Historical Walking Tour

Providing an interesting view of the remains of Santiago’s different times and periods, the tour explores the city’s archaeology, religion, customs and folklore. By the end of this tour you will have a comprehensive notion of all the elements that made up the origin of Santiago. The tour includes Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna Square and Santa Lucia Hill. The tour begins every day at 10am and lasts for two and a half hours.

Winelands: Maipo, Casablanca & Colchagua Valleys

The attractive Maipo, Casablanca and Colchagua Valleys are some of Chile’s most important wine producing regions. Head out for a half or full day tour to get first-hand experience of the regions. Tours range from private tastings at family-run boutique vineyards through to multiple stop itineraries, including some of the larger scale operations and sprawling wine estates. Key attributes of the region allow for production of quality wines at a reasonable cost, such as the year-round sun, low humidity and volcanic dry soil. These qualities lead to stronger vines, deeper flavours and fewer pests. The Maipo Valley is less than an hour east of Santiago, making the region the closest and most convenient stop to sample some of Chile’s full-bodied reds and crisp whites. One of the world-famous brands in the Maipo Valley is Concha Y Toro, which makes frequent appearances on shelves throughout the United Kingdom.

El Tatio Geysers

You’ll need an early start for your excursion to El Tatio Geysers, which are located a couple of hour's drive from San Pedro de Atacama. These geothermal fields include more than eighty active geysers, with vapour columns spurting from the pools that can reach a dizzying height of up to 12 metres. Enjoy breakfast on site at dawn, before returning to your hotel for lunch. On the return journey, look out for local wildlife including vicunas, foxes and Andean ostriches. This excursion lasts between five and six hours, including transfers and a breakfast enroute, due to the early start. The area is located 4300 metres above sea level.
