Located outside Oudtshoorn on the way to the Cango Caves, The Thorntree is a typical country farmstead, with long low buildings dating to the 19th century and fronted with covered stoeps (or porches). The décor is modern and simple, with crisp white linen and splashes of rich colour. Dark wooden furniture nods towards the heritage of the buildings without being overbearing. As well as delicious breakfasts, dinners are also offered, focusing on traditional South African dishes, particularly those that make use of local game. The Thorntree is a sophisticated but simple rural retreat.
